Title: Lender Services Underwriter

Location: Radnor, PA

This is an advanced level position which works under limited supervision and is responsible for underwriting decisions pertinent to residential and commercial real estate transactions located within assigned jurisdictions state as well as back-up underwriting support within centralized title production. Provides advisory guidance to associates and customers on underwritten files. Communicates with and assists lenders and colleagues regarding the Company's products and services. Assists associates with the legal aspects of title and closing issues contained within the Lender Services title manufacturing process. Represents Company in state and national land title associations, reviews and maintains compliance with state regulations, laws, statutes, and regulations.

As a dynamic and resourceful professional, we will rely on you to perform the following duties:
  • Underwrites title risk primarily for residential title transactions. Assists lenders and colleagues on sophisticated title issues, questions and closing problems. Interpret legal documents associated with real estate transactions and evaluate for insurability.
  • Engages with title underwriters regarding escrow and title closing issues. Responds to claim problems, advises the title or escrow officers involved with Claims Department approval.
  • Aid operations team in curing title issues and directing them on how to address various issues. Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits, to underwrite the issuance of title insurance. Provides guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services. Issues underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes.
  • Supports Company efforts with assigned state regulators, rating agencies and bureaus and licensing organizations. Reviews and approves high liability orders within maximum approved limits.
  • Participates as requested by management in marketing and education efforts, including developing and making presentations to large and small groups, and writing Bulletins Stays current and distributes to staff information regarding new laws and procedures. Involved in title industry associations, state, and local title organizations as well as related industry and state bar associations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
  • JD - Juris Doctor.
  • 3+ years title underwriting experience.
  • Travels on company business as necessary.  Estimate - 15%. 
  • Must be familiar with real estate law.
  • Continuing legal education requirements.
  • Member of Bar Association and license to practice law in at least one primary assigned state and willingness to secure license in additional states as warranted by corporate growth.
  • Title insurance underwriting experience and real estate transactional background.
  • Knowledge of real estate and title insurance law in the assigned state(s).
  • Strong understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of real estate title and settlement process.
  • General knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement services.
  • General understanding of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies.
  • Ability to collaborate and act decisively.
  • Detail oriented and strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, and prioritize.
