Summary

Hawaiian Ocean Transport, a subsidiary of Odyssey Logistics & Technology Corporation (OLT), is recruiting for an Operations Manager for the domestic freight forwarding businesses of Hawaii. OLT is privately held and one of the top 100 US third-party logistics companies with operations across the US, Europe and Asia.  With minimal supervision, the ideal candidate will have the responsibility for all portions of the terminal’s operation by supporting structures related to drivers and the coordination of picking up and/or delivering the customer’s cargo.   Schedule all freight movements (incoming containers for devanning) as well as outgoing deliveries and container/flatrack movements in an efficient method that maximizes company resources while meeting and exceeding customer standards.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Start times may vary to assigned days of work
  • Schedules are set by Terminal Manager
  • Overtime is required
  • Weekend work may be required

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervisors the driver team and manages hauling vendor relationships and activities, maximizing assets and resources for optimization.
  • Develop, document, implement, and maintain policies and procedures centered around driving performance and efficiencies.
  • Ensure scheduling meets all customer requirements and required delivery dates and is performed efficiently and safely.  Facilitates pick-up and/or delivery of shipment
  • Investigates and resolves customer concerns when centered around delivery time frames or methods.
  • Schedules the drivers
  • Maintain the appropriate equipment types and quantities to ensure customer needs are met (flat-racks, empty containers).
  • Manages and participates in the scheduling process of all movements to customers.
  • Ensure all incoming freight is offered to our customer base within 48 hours of availability, should they choose to receive it later, ensure storage charges are invoiced for any shipments offered, but not yet scheduled, 5 days after it became available. Maintain our company service standard that all we are to attempt to schedule all deliveries within 48 hours of availability.
  • Provides feedback to the warehouse supervisor as well as the Terminal Manager from customers such as loading preferences, concerns, or compliments.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service for internal and external customers
  • Reviews all driver documentation (i.e.: pre-trip, post-trip, driver logs, etc.) for completion and are submitted in accordance with company procedure and guidelines
  • Assist with accident and/or incident reports as needed
  • Ensure all employees are operating safely and observe as necessary
  • Provide support for operations and sales staff efforts
  • Effectively communicate company policies and plans to all levels and providing feedback when necessary.
  • Must attend safety meetings with drivers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in a dispatching role.  Prefer a minimum of 1 year dispatching experience on Oahu.
  • Knowledge of transportation industry is a plus
  • Analytical ability is required
  • Adapt to new processes quickly and streamline current processes as necessary
  • Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software such as MS Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Geographical knowledge of the state of Alaska is a plus
  • Willing and able to work with all personality types, with a professional, helpful manner
  • Ability and desire to perform well in a fast-paced, fluid environment where tasks change quickly
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check

 

Communication Skills:

  • Employee must have the ability to read, and write the English language
  • Have the ability to effectively communicate and present information and respond to questions from management, customers and the general public
  • Must be able to communicate with a positive team mentality at all times, both written and verbal

 

 Reasoning Abilities:

  • Employee must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations professionally
  • He/she must know how to communicate via telephone or radio to dispatch for instruction and or guidance

 

Certificates, Licenses:

  • Valid Driver’s License is required
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred, but not required
  • Obtain and maintain a DOT physical and valid Medical Card preferred (if applicable)
  • Current DMV report (if applicable)
