Position Summary

American Fast Freight, Inc., a subsidiary of Odyssey Logistics & Technology Corporation (OLT), requires a high caliber Senior Accountant to support the Controller in overseeing the financial accounting and reporting for the domestic freight forwarding businesses. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated finance professional who can demonstrate leadership qualities, attention to detail and who is proficient in the application and use of technology.  OLT is privately held and one of the top 100 US third-party logistics companies with operations across the US, Europe and Asia.

Essential Duties / Functions

  • Responsible for reviewing all month end journal entries, including accruals, amortization and depreciation; review/post any correcting entries
  • Ensure general ledger balance sheet accounts are reconciled each month, including multiple bank accounts and intercompany ledger accounts
  • Prepare draft financial statements, operations reviews and ad hoc reporting for review by Controller
  • Perform variance analyses for the income statement and balance sheet
  • Maintain chart of accounts and report design
  • Assist in preparation of the annual budget and periodic operating forecasts
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Ensure fixed asset subledger (separate system) is maintained and reconciles to GL
  • Provide input and assist with internal controls and related financial and accounting policies
  • Assist in overseeing tasks for annual financial audit, including review of audit schedules and related income tax schedules as requested by outside CPA firm
  • Oversee preparation and filing of monthly and annual excise and property tax returns
  • Assist in supervision, training and mentorship of accounting team personnel
  • Ad-hoc reporting, special projects, and other analyses as required
  • Protect organization’s value by keeping information confidential
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Accounting, Finance or relevant field of study from a four-year accredited college/university is required
  • Minimum 3-5 years general ledger experience
  • Transportation or freight industry experience is a plus
  • Detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated and able to meet deadlines
  • Highly skilled in general accounting, analysis, account reconciliation, month-end closing and financial reporting
  • Proficient with accounting software; experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and Management Reporter would be a plus
  • Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, vlookup and if/sumif functions.
  • Superior problem-solving skills
  • Clear and concise written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional understanding of GAAP while staying current in all accounting related principles
  • Supervisory or leadership experience is a plus
  • Able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, across multiple departments and geographies, and interact positively with outside parties

Location/Travel Requirements

This position is located in Fife, Washington and may require minimal travel.
