POSITION TITLE: Payroll Clerk (Contract to Hire)

POSITION SUMMARY: The payroll clerk performs complex payroll tasks under general supervision. Monitors and maintains complex payroll systems and acts as the technical specialist for such systems.  Maintains records to assist with union and legal compliance issues.  Processes and records transactions, monitors accounts, provides routine accounting reports, and makes adjustments as required in payroll and accounts payable, accounts receivable, and petty cash, as required.  most work assigned with a minimum of assistance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  • Processes, verifies and enters data all payroll functions, also supporting other accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, logistics, employee expenses, inventory, etc. Ensures accuracy, data integrity, thoroughness, and timeliness of payroll in accordance with GSF, federal, state, and union regulations and policies.
  • Processes garnishment, child support, and bankruptcy court orders, payments, and answers in accordance with federal and state laws.  Communicates regularly with employees regarding status of such orders, maintaining strong employee relations.
  • In union facilities, maintains logs, files and records for all GSF employees (e.g. sick/vacation/holiday/funeral pay, garnishments, jury duty, military leave, etc.) and prepares reports for one or more accounting functions.
  • Administers payment of sick leave, FMLA, PLOA, vacation in accordance with GSF policies and union contract provisions.
  • Establishes and maintains payroll files.
  • Performs other related and assigned duties as necessary.

Nonessential Functions:

  • Processes paperwork and performs a variety of clerical tasks to support Human Resources administration, including completion of new employee paperwork, support of human resources functions, and routine correspondence.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, you’ll need to be able to perform each essential duty.   • Proficiency in use of computers, Microsoft Excel, and computer payroll software programs.
  • Well-rounded knowledge of payroll principles.
  • Ability to organize work and projects, prioritize and meet deadlines, and ability to complete work in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Ability to reason and multi-task.
  • At least one (1) to three (3) years of proven experience in payroll, demonstrating a progression in complexity of payroll tasks and union knowledge.
  • High School Diploma Required
