Talent Orchard LLC is a boutique woman-owned Workforce Solutions Company and Federal Contractor. We are currently retained by a specialty Government Contractor to assist in finding experienced Downstream Process Development Scientist to support a long-term government customer in Gaithersburg, MD.

What you will do:

The Downstream Process Development Scientist is responsible for:

• Leading the execution of strategies for purification process development of clinical vaccine and therapeutic candidates.
• Processing virus vaccines, recombinant proteins and virus-like particles that may be used as clinical vaccine and therapeutic candidates.
• Performing development experience in recombinant protein purification.
• Leading a group in the execution of scientific strategies for purification process design, optimization, and scale-up.
• Performing combinations of column chromatography, TFF/DFF, centrifugation or other purification methods.
• Providing hands-on scientific support of multiple research and pre-clinical purification projects.
• Performing various purification studies to specify and characterize purification processes. The purification process may include, but not limited to, centrifugation, continuous centrifugation, DFF, TFF, chromatography or other processes required for each product.
• Studying the process sensitivity with respect to various process variables and their interactions using structured statistically designed experiments using DOE including screening and optimization designs.
• Performing characterization of the product purity
• Leading the technology transfer of his/her group's clinical purification processes to the cGMP pilot plant to meet project timelines.

Your background will include:

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Life Sciences or a related discipline.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in recombinant protein purification development.
• Previous work experience in a GMP environment in biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
• Demonstrated knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed records.
• Demonstrated expertise in the following techniques or tools for protein purification and characterization:
• Column chromatography for protein purification by means of AEX, CEX, affinity, SEC, HIC
• Column packing and testing
• AKTA chromatography system
• Lab scale TFF systems
• Lab scale nano-filtration systems
• Qualitative assays including SDS-PAGE and Western Blot
• UV/Vis spectrophotometer
• Must be a team player who can effectively work with members from cross-functional departments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with computer software including word processing and data evaluation.
• Knowledge and use of statistical design of experiments (DoE).
