Job Title:             Dispatch

Summary

Dispatch has the responsibility for all portions of the terminal’s operation by supporting structures related to drivers and the coordination of picking up and/or delivering the customer’s cargo. 

Work Schedule:

• Start times may vary Monday through Friday
• Schedules are set by Dispatch Manager
• Overtime is required
• Weekend work may be required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prioritizes, schedules and coordinates labor for each shipment
• Facilitates pick-up and/or delivery of shipment
• Maintain a high level of customer service for internal and external customers
• Reviews all driver documentation (i.e.: pre-trip, post-trip, driver logs, etc.) for completion and are submitted in accordance with company procedure and guidelines
• Assist with accident and/or incident reports as needed
• Ensure all employees are operating safely and observe as necessary
• Provide support for operations and sales staff efforts
• Effectively communicate company policies and plans to all levels and providing feedback when necessary
• Must attend safety meetings with Dispatch Manager and drivers
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• HS Diploma or equivalent combination of experience and education
• 1-2 years of experience in a dispatching role
• Knowledge of transportation industry is a plus
• Analytical ability is required
• Adapt to new processes quickly and streamline current processes as necessary
• Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software such as MS Outlook, Excel, and Word
• Geographical knowledge of the state of Alaska is a plus
• Willing and able to work with all personality types, with a professional, helpful manner
• Ability and desire to perform well in a fast-paced, fluid environment where tasks change quickly
• Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check

Communication Skills:

• Employee must have the ability to read, and write the English language
• Have the ability to effectively communicate and present information and respond to questions from management, customers and the general public
• Must be able to communicate with a positive team mentality at all times, both written and verbal

 Reasoning Abilities:

• Employee must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations professionally
• He/she must know how to communicate via telephone or radio to dispatch for instruction and or guidance

Certificates, Licenses:

• Valid Driver’s License is required
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred, but not required
• Obtain and maintain a DOT physical and valid Medical Card preferred (if applicable)
• Current DMV report (if applicable)

• Stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear
• Time sensitive data entry requirements
• Low to moderate noise level
• Prolonged periods of viewing a computer monitor
• Customer service demands
• Fast paced environment
• Work in extreme weather conditions, with temperature variances from + 80 degrees Fahrenheit to – 50 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the course of a season.
