Senior Linux Systems Engineer This position is responsible for supporting the the Linux platform department, including relevant software and utilities. Conducts ongoing planning of computing resource requirements, continuously monitors performance. The department is responsible for delivery and support of all aspects of the company's Linux infrastructure environment which includes capacity planning, infrastructure build out, availability monitoring, performance, and security management. Further, manages and coordinates projects to build and/or implement comprehensive integrated system solutions for IT customers, while maintaining a high level of service on production systems and anticipating future requirements, trends, and changes to assure current and future satisfaction of customer service within budget constraints.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintains an expert level knowledge of all products, technologies, tools, methodologies, and services used within the department
    • Interfaces with other teams, vendors, and business as part of the service and support process
    • Performs systems installation, administration, operations, maintenance, support, testing, upgrades, performance monitoring, business continuance, and documentation in accordance with company, vendor, and departmental standards, processes, templates, and tools
    • Anticipates and identifies potential problems before they occur and implements solutions to minimize impact on projects and users.
    • Ensures adherence to formal processes, standards and total quality practices in all activities
    • Drives technology innovation and process improvement efforts
  • Works closely with Program Office, Strategy, Engineering, Architecture, and Support groups in achieving departmental and company commitments
    • Manages timelines and progress of activities to ensure schedules and commitments are met
    • Coordinates and facilitates the completion of workflow by individuals and project teams both inside and outside the IT organization
    • Works closely with delivery organizations to develop project plans and forecasts for the delivery of solutions to the business
    • Provides technology direction and guidance to business areas as appropriate
    • Meets or exceeds schedules, budgets, and quality targets

Technical Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of Linux infrastructure platforms such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Enterprise Linux required.
  • Knowledge of and experience with configuration and maintenance of Linux hardware platforms required. Hands-on experience with Dell, HP, IBM/Lenovo and Cisco server hardware platforms a plus. In particular, hands-on experience with Dell FX-2 hardware platform a major plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience in high availability environments such as Red Hat Cluster Server, Veritas Cluster Server and Oracle RAC a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience in software platforms, especially SAS, Control-M, and Application Dynamics, and New Relic a major plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in planning, deploying and managing infrastructure technologies required.
  • Experience working in multiple-site, multiple vendor team environment required.
  • Knowledge of the SDLC and ability to follow documented processes required.

Job experience

  • 5+ years’ Broad in depth knowledge for enterprise-wide implementation and supporting of enterprise Linux products.
