Job Title: Technician – Chassis Dyno

Job Description:

Conexess is looking for a self-motivated person with a positive attitude, who is able to follow direction while performing testing and mechanical duties. This person’s first responsibility is to perform tail pipe & evaporative emission testing, on development, in-use and certification vehicles. This person will also be responsible for assisting technicians with any of the tasks that they commonly perform, including, but not limited to, vehicle maintenance, cleaning and organizing the workshop and storage areas, vehicle diagnosis and repair, and powertrain analysis.  

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Perform Vehicle Emissions Tests on chassis dynamometer according to the regulatory requirements prescribed by the CFR
    • Perform a variety of driving tests cycles in the chassis dyno cell
      • Federal Test Procedure (FTP)
      • Highway fuel economy test
      • US06 test,
      • SC03
      • Cold Emissions and manufacturer developed test cycles.
    • Perform fuel drain & fills, and prep vehicle
  • Able to operate emission sampling equipment for drive cycles mentioned above.
    • Bag emissions
    • Pre/post emissions
  • Operate additional sampling equipment in test cells such as (not required, but preferred)
    • Speciation Impingers
    • Particulate Matter measurement system
    • Cambustion (PN/PM)
    • Fast FID
  • Set up Off-board and On-board Canister Loads
  • Disassemble/reassemble evaporative systems and charcoal canisters lines
  • Perform Evaporative Hot Soak, Diurnal and On Board Recovery refueling tests
  • Monitor gauges for temperature variances and monitor sample collection bags
  • Print out data/analysis report and inform engineers of results and abnormalities.
  • Monitors Labs Consumables (Fuel, Gases, Filters, Flanges) (not required, but preferred)
  • Replace parts on in-use and development vehicles as needed; may include exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, O2 sensors, etc, and other light mechanical work.
  • Perform general housekeeping of chassis test cells and work area.
  • Complete necessary administrative paperwork
  • Flexibility to support on the Road test trips. Work in extreme hot or cold environments
  • Travel up to 10% of the time domestically and internationally

Position Qualification and Requirements:

  1. Familiar with Microsoft Office applications
  2. 2 – 5 years experience in Chassis Dyno operations and emission testing
  3. 2+ years experience in automotive mechanics
  4. Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
  5. Hard working with ability to handle multiple wide-ranging tasks on a daily basis

 

Preferred:

  1. Associates Degree in Automotive Mechanics or related
  2. Automotive Service Excellence certificate
  3. Familiar with HORIBA and Burke E. Porter equipment
  4. Knowledge of emissions testing and EPA/CARB test procedures and regulations

NOTES:

Shop Environment - exposure to fuel, compressed air/gas, emissions and exhaust fumes; pinching, tripping, electrical, and chemical hazards; bending and stooping required; must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. and work safely with hand power tools. Safety glasses required.

Laboratory Environment - exposure to fuel, compressed air/gas, emissions and exhaust fumes.  Pinching, tripping, electrical, and chemical hazards; bending and stooping required. May be exposed to hazardous conditions; must have clear understanding of safety; may have to lift up to 50 lbs. Safety glasses required.
