Position Summary: Apply principles and ensure compliance with all related accounting regulations and Agency procedures impacting accounting department and provide oversight to verification of coding, journal entries, bank and balance sheet reconciliations and other duties as requested. Provides direction/answers questions from accounting staff. Monitor, review and report discrepancies with monthly DCF invoice.

Technical/Functional Expectations:

  1. Accounts Payable - Essential Function: Review all accounts payable transactions, to include proper coding, in order to ensure accurate fund source and payment amount for vendors and associates.
  2. Accounting Practices-Essential Function: Monitor, and ensure compliance with all internal policies, DCF requirements, appropriate funding sources, GAAP and federal regulations for all accounting activities and reports.
  3. Financial Reporting-Essential Function: Collect, verify, and summarize account information in order to prepare journal entries to include supporting documentation. Also prepares monthly GL account and bank reconciliations.
  4. General Ledger Reconciliation - Essential Function: Prepare all account reconciliations to ensure accuracy of the Agency's business transactions.
  5. Monthly preparation of DCF Invoice-Essential Function: This is required in order to justify and appropriately receive the monthly contracted amount from funder.
  6. Serve as 1st tier support to accounting dept.: This is required in order to provide timely and accurate response to questions or issues from accounting staff.
  7. Other duties as required: Job performance requires fulfilling other incidental or related duties as assigned, assisting and training others, and performing duties of higher rated positions from time to time for developmental purposes.

Business Experience:

  1. 3+ years of progressive experience in accounting dept.: To effectively perform the required accounting functions and financial oversight to include A/P, journal entries, and GL and bank reconciliations.
  2. Prior experience in non-profit accounting preferred: To more easily understand the multiple funding streams and accounts and sub accounts utilized in this environment and under OMB Circulars.
  3. Effective Communication and Interpersonal skills: This is required to work in a dynamic team environment and address challenges and pressing deadlines in a collaborative, positive, solution-focused manner.
  4. Intermediate Level Skill in Excel: This is required in order to develop and maintain various and complex spreadsheets in support of the department’s goals.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  1. BA/BS Degree in Accounting required.
  2. 3+ current accounting exp. with A/P, JE and bank rec required.
  3. Prior non-profit experience preferred.
