Job Title:          International Transportation Coordinator 


Summary: 

The International Transportation Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the accurate and timely movement of customer’s import shipments, FCL and LCL and air from origin to destination in compliance with company standards and government agencies, such as FMC, CFR, IACSSP, and Customs and Border Protection.  Ensures accuracy and completeness of quotes, services, documentation, and billing for services.  Establishes and maintains new business opportunities from both existing and new customer sources.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Communicates with other departments and ensure that required information is exchanged timely and accurately.
  • Communicates with Branch Manager or Department Supervisor/Manager regarding issues with inbound and/or outbound international transportation issues.
  • Responsible for ocean and air freight cargo processing including communications, rating, booking, document handling, billing, tracking and delivery of cargo.
  • Selects or recommends appropriate carrier for the customer’s cargo according to customer needs, rate levels or other requirements.
  • Ensures accurate export cargo and documentation processing.
  • Complies with letters of credit or other banking documents are on file for the customer.
  • Communicates with carriers and vendors to facilitate timely transport and release of freight.
  • Troubleshoots transportation issues to the customer’s satisfaction or escalates complex problems to the supervisor.
  • Responsible for related accounting issues such as ensuring billing is timely and correct, processes invoices for payment etc.
  • Ensures that import and export file numbers are entered into the system.

Education/Experience

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Ability

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to communicate with employees, managers and customers via email, telephone or in person. Creates business correspondence. Ability to effectively present technical information in

one-on-one and small group situations to customers, management, vendors, and other employees of the organization.

 

 

 

Math Ability

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Appropriately add and compute fees, taxes and other charges.  Time zone determinations and carrier schedule computations.  Conversions needed for pricing calculations and how to apply to rating of ocean and air cargo bills of lading.  Appropriately add and compute fees, time zone and schedule computations. Perform weight and measure conversions as well as financial conversions.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access required.  Proficiency with email required.
