Position Summary:  The Terminal Manager is responsible for overseeing all facility and operational requirements in our Carson CA terminal. The Terminal Manager will work closely with the VP of Operations, Warehouse Manager, and Safety and Security Coordinator to ensure inbound, outbound, and inter-facility freight requirements have been met operationally.

  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Interpret and communicate state and federal regulatory agency requirements to ensure and enforce compliance for all operational functions; i.e., FDA, DOT; OSHA, Etc
    • Remain current with knowledge in regards to all regulatory agency requirements
    • Accountable for developing and enforcing an environment that adheres to company Safety, Health, and Security policies
  • Policies and Planning:
    • Participates in creating operational strategies to determine goals and objectives
    • Ensures goals and objectives set in line with operational needs are met
    • Ensures policies and procedures are enforced to support goals and objectives are being met
  • Planning Objectives and Methods
    • Participates in creating financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions
    • Communicates expectation of effective and efficient plans with staff to ensure operations are in line with expectations of the customer  
    • Assures and enforces best practices are adopted and adapted for HOT needs
    • Incorporate and implement proven methods, approaches and tools
    • Develops and tracks key performance measures on plans and executions
  • Equipment and Facility
    • Works closely with VP of Operations and Warehouse Manager to finalize accident and cargo loss claims
    • Approve licensing of all operating equipment within the terminal
    • Coordinate and execute the acquisition, disposition, and transfer of equipment
    • Ensure proper maintenance and housekeeping of terminal premises and property
    • Regulate and initiate purchases of equipment in accordance with company policies and procedures
    • Regulate and control the maintenance and repair of facility and equipment at the terminal
  • Management and Administrative
    • Enforces compliance of operations personnel with administrative policies, procedures, safety rules, and regulatory agency requirements
    • Investigates and resolves causes of customer, general public or shipper complaints relating to the operations department and communicates as necessary
    • Works closely with the Warehouse Manager to make operational and capital expenditure recommendations, and provides maintenance reports to determine requirement outcome
    • Provides education and training for operations customers, both internally and externally
    • Develops and maintains a professional and efficient staff within the operations organization
  • Employee Relations
    • Plans, monitors, and appraises job results
    • Coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees as needed

Education/Experience:

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Ability:

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

 

 

Mathematical Ability:

Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Computer Skills:

Microsoft office products, inventory programs and ability to learn and adapt to new software programs.
