Essential Duties:

  • Assists survey crews with staking and general field operations.
  • Interacts with clients in a positive and professional manner.
  • Relies on company procedures and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
  • Assists UAV/UAS crews completing aerial surveys, through mission planning, planning for weather, establishment of control targets, safety procedures, visual observation, and downloading of data
  • Works under close supervision related to specific work activities, assignments, methods, etc; usually receives frequent surveillance over job activities.
  • Follows all safety protocols and standard operating practices.
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of first aid.
  • Assists Environmental Specialist with water sampling projects.
  • Performs traffic control for survey crews.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned by management.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Works effectively individually and as a team member; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, co-workers, inspectors and employees in other departments and others encountered in the course of work.
  • Assists survey technicians and PLS as required.

Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • A basic understanding of Ascent file and data structure and database and system administration techniques used to move data and files between applications and repositories and performing database queries. 
  • Keeps legible field notes and other records of survey activity.
  • Ability to maintain a cooperative relationship with those contacted in the course of work activities. 
  • Operates a laptop/desktop computer, copier, scanner, and printer.
  • Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Ability to utilize judgment and decision making, in regards to mission and public safety in order to prevent both public and/or company injury or loss 
  • This position requires/may require use of a company-owned vehicle(s); must possess a valid driver’s license and have no more than two minor violations (i.e. speeding 5-10 over, defective vehicle) within the preceding 36 months, nor a major violation (i.e. DUI) within the previous 60 months.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education/Experience:

·High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position may require travel 25-75% of the time within the Rocky Mountain region, or other areas, dependent on work requirements.

 

10% of work is regularly performed in an office setting in an environmentally controlled room.  

Environmental Factors:

Work is regularly performed for sustained periods outdoors and occasionally in hot, cold, or inclement weather; and work exposes employee to possible bodily injury while performing field work.  This position does contain 90 % of field work. 

 

The employee would be exposed to the possibility of the following:

  • Seasonal extreme temperatures, wetness and humidity
  • Daily noise and vibration
  • Conditions on or near well sites where undetectable and hazardous gases may be present
  • Unpleasant odors
  • Hazardous materials
  • Encounters with wildlife including but not limited to snakes, scorpions, bear, bobcat, mosquitos, wasps, rodents, cattle, etc.
  • Hazards associated with driving to and from work site locations
  • Hazards associated with survey work within various rights of way

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to walk, stand or sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to repetitively finger, handle, feel or operate standard computers and other field and office equipment; and reach with hands and arms.

Employees are regularly required to be current on their safety training; handle time pressures; prepare for emergency situations; handle frequent change of tasks; and irregular work schedule/overtime

While working in the office: Typically sit at a desk or table. Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 30lbs.  While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or new skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; and interact with staff and other organizations; and supervisors, co-workers, inspectors and employees in other departments and others encountered in the course of work.

While working in the field:  Regularly walk, stand, or stoop. The employee is occasionally required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.  Frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 40 pounds.  Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.  Carry equipment up and down steep mountainous terrain.  Walk, stand, crouch, or run on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.  Regularly drives a field truck; occasionally operates rugged off terrain vehicles.

Work for sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail in highly analytical situations requiring an extremely high degree of accuracy.  Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.  Distinguish between shades of color and communicate via cell phone or radio.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
