Location:             Anchorage, AK

FLSA Status:       Non-Exempt

Summary

With general supervision, performs journeyman level duties in the maintenance and repair of gas, diesel, and propane engines and other mechanical equipment primarily used in the facility. Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

  • Start times may vary Sunday through Friday
  • Schedules are set by Maintenance Supervisor
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect vehicles and equipment to determine the extent of work or repair needed and provide the supervisor with the estimates of time required to make needed repairs
  • Repair and overhaul haul hydraulic, pneumatic, ignition, and electrical systems
  • Repair and overhaul transmissions, differentials, and related components
  • Perform mechanical duties requiring the operation and use of a variety of hand and power-driven tools and equipment
  • Ensures the quality and expediency of work performed
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of (1) year working in a maintenance environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of welders and cutting torches
  • Familiar with electrical systems and diagnosis process for problems
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical assessment test (PAT) and/or functional capacity exam (FCE), drug screening, and background check

Communication Skills:

  • Employee must have the ability to read, speak, and write the English language
  • Have the ability to effectively communicate and present information and respond to questions, both written and verbal, from management, customers and the general public

Reasoning Abilities:

  • Employee must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations in a professional fashion.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will be required to:

  • Stand, stoop, twist, walk, and lay on their back on a maintenance dolly and reach with the hands and arms
  • Regularly move objects or parts weighing in excess of (50) pounds
  • Intermittently lift and or move parts or objects weighing in excess of (25) pounds at arm’s length lying on their back on a maintenance dolly while installing parts to a vehicle or machine.
  • Regularly kneel while holding parts or objects weighing in excess of (25) pounds.
  • Regularly move into and out of cramped spaces while making needed repairs to vehicles and machinery.
  • Work with motorized machinery and their moving parts.
  • Have the ability to work in extreme weather conditions varying from +80 degrees Fahrenheit
