Ruby on Rails Application Developer

Arlington, VA

Talent Orchard LLC, a boutique talent acquisition-consulting firm, has been retained under contract by a Federal Contractor to assist in identifying a Ruby on Rail Application Developer. Our client is specialized in providing high quality products and services to federal, state and local governments, health care providers, higher education throughout the United States. Position is located in Arlington, VA and ability to get to the work location is a must.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Participates in Agile Sprint planning and estimation, user stories evaluation, daily stand-ups including, but not limited to:
  • Size estimation of backlog items
  • Translation of backlog items into engineering design and logical units of work (tasks)
  • Evaluation of technical feasibility
  • Implementation of backlog items
• Writes unit tests
• Writes and verifies code which adheres to the acceptance criteria
• Participates in code reviews
• Troubleshoots problems related to software applications.
• Designs and develops new software products or major enhancements to existing software.
• Addresses problems of systems integration, compatibility, and multiple platforms.
• Assists in the evaluation and recommendation of application software packages, application integration and testing tools.
• Resolves problems with software and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
• May act as team leader on projects.
• Instructs, assigns, directs, and checks the work of other software developers on development team.

Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Must have 5+ years of relevant experience with Bachelor degree and field-of-expertise-related professional certifications are strongly preferred. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certification can be substituted for two years of experience.
• Proven experience with Agile and Waterfall methodologies
• Collaborative team player
• Web development experience in Java and/or Groovy, Scala, Clojure, etc.
• Full stack development using the Spring Boot Framework.
• Strong database skills with MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails and React
• Understanding and knowledge of GitHub, AWS, Azure.
• DevOps and Continuous Delivery tools – Jenkins/TeamCity, Vagrant, Puppet/Chef/etc.
• Experience with REST and/or SOAP based APIs consumption and creation.
• Experience working with HTML5, CSS3, ERB, SCSS, JavaScript, and jQuery.

Preferred Skills:

• Build automation with Gradle or Maven.
• Automated testing with Cucumber, JUnit, Selenium, etc.
• Design skills with experience in object-oriented methodologies, design patterns, database design, and data modeling

Clearance:

• Must be able to obtain federal government Position of Trust
