The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the configuration, implementation, and support of the global network. The majority of the work assigned to the senior network engineer is project-focused, while the remainder serves for providing second-tier network support for day-to-day operations and supporting network engineers with their tasks, as needed. The individual must be a proven self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks with very little supervision.

The Senior Network Engineer is a full-time role located in Southfield, Michigan, reporting to the Network Team Lead. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Network Team to deliver business critical projects and maintain high levels of service, supporting over 30 core sites globally
  • Maintain relationship with the Network Architect, vendors, and consultants to ensure that network standards and deliverables are met
  • Audit, test, document, implement and support the global network technologies
  • Participate in the planning, configuration, implementation, and support of new network environments (new office location, existing office relocations and/or expansions, refresh of legacy environment, integration of acquisition company network)
  • Configure production-impacting routing, switching, and wireless changes, as necessary
  • Test and turn up WAN circuits (MPLS, Point-to-Point, DIA)
  • Ensure that deliverables are produced within the planned budget and timeframe
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning, development, exercises and actual events
  • Evaluate and test software patches and updates supplied by vendors, prior to installation
  • Work with vendors, corporate IT, and other technology groups to resolve any problems
  • Conduct routine hardware and software audits of all supported systems to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Maintain proper change management documentation for all hardware and software modifications
  • Report progress to supervisor and project managers, including the preparation of weekly status reports
  • Troubleshoot and manage calls/tickets escalated from the network engineers
  • Work with the Security Team to create and maintain a secure infrastructure
  • Participate in weekly on-call rotation
  • Participate in monthly maintenance windows
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • CCNA (required) , CCNP (preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related field (preferred) or the equivalent in training and experience.
  • Solid understanding of routing protocols BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP required
  • Extensive knowledge of Cisco routers – ISR G2, ISR 4K, and ASR series routers
  • Extensive knowledge of Cisco Catalyst switches - 3850, 4500, 6500
  • Extensive knowledge of Cisco Nexus switches - 2K, 5K, 7K, 9K
  • Extensive knowledge implementing and supporting DNS, DHCP, SNMP, TACACS/RADIUS, SYSLOG
  • Extensive knowledge of Cisco Meraki Wireless Solutions – Dashboard and MR Series access points
  • Experience with Cisco DMVPN is preferred
  • Experience with Load Balancer technologies (F5 preferred)
  • Experience with WAN Acceleration technologies is a plus
  • Experience with access control list (ACLs), TCP/IP. VLAN, VRF, Port Security, Traffic Shaping, Priority Queuing, Class of Service (CoS), Quality of Service (QoS) and IP routing
  • Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting solutions - SolarWinds, Cisco Prime Infrastructure, and Wireshark is preferred
  • Experience with the design, provisioning and troubleshooting of WAN/LAN technologies and data circuits (MPLS, Point-to-Point, DIA)
  • Project management experience is a plus
  • Some travel required
  • Capacity to successfully manage and prioritize simultaneous requests from start to finish
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to interact with clients, staff, and management teams
  • Ability to work full time in a fast-paced office environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the work day
