Job Title: Dispatcher (Local/Road)

Department: Transportation

Reports to: Transportation & Safety Manager

Location:  Caribbean Shipping Services – Jacksonville, FL.

 

Summary

Assigns and/or schedules contract drivers for both local and line haul.  Coordinates with warehouse and logistics team for equipment needs. 

 

Work Schedule:

Normal work week Monday through Friday, 7 to 4pm, occasional after hours and weekend work based on operational needs.  Available on-call to support line haul drivers. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities not limited to below:

  • Coordinate pickup/delivery schedules with customers.
  • Coordinate freight movement for local and line haul operation.
  • Coordinates equipment moves for warehouse operation.
  • Orders state regulated permits as needed.
  • Assigns work schedules for drivers daily/weekly. 
  • Performs daily yard checks and monitors equipment needs utilizing long-term lease chassis; minimizing expenses for unnecessary on-hires
  • Setup and provide cartages for freight assigned internal and outsourced carriers.       
  • Monitors equipment for maintenance and repair, keeping them safe for roadability. 
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with customers; co-workers and contract drivers.
  • Monitors drivers HOS through ELD and paper; ensures DOT supporting documents are updated and monthly tractor maintenance are turned in, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be able to work with Microsoft Office suites
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work independently without constant supervision
  • Must have the ability to make sound decision at a moment’s notice.
  • Must be a team player
  • Must be able to manage time wisely and effectively.
  • Must have both oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.

 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of (3) year dispatching local and line haul freight.
  • Operation of Commercial vehicle.  
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials classifications.

 

Language Skills:

  • Employee must have the ability to read and write the English language.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with customers and arrange for interpretation if necessary through the sales representative and their customer contact. 
  • Have the ability to complete bill of ladings, load manifests, and review of pre-trip inspection forms in accordance with company and regulatory agency requirements.

     

    Reasoning abilities:

    Applicant must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of in-house and customer situations in a positive and professional fashion.

     

    Certificates, licenses:

  • Applicant must maintain a valid CDL Class A,
  • Maintain a DOT physical and furnish the safety department with a legible copy of the long form completed by the attending physician.
  • Valid Hazardous Materials certification training.

  • Stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop with hands and arms
  •  Talk and hear.
  • Lift and carry (50) pounds up to (25) feet.
  • Specific vision abilities for this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust and focus with the aid of eye wear if needed.
