Desktop User Experience Engineer
POSITION SUMMARY
The Desktop User Experience Engineer will have proven experience in all aspects of imaging and application deployment to end user devices managed (desktops, laptops, tablets). This technical position is a great opportunity to work directly with leadership to translate business objectives and needs into well-crafted desktop solutions. This includes configuration, standardization, necessary customization, implementation, testing, and changes. The Desktop Engineer will develop and maintain device images, utilize automation to deploy software on end user devices and maintain thorough documentation on all current and newly implemented technologies. The Desktop Engineer will provide input and make recommendations for desktop platforms and applications. The Desktop Engineer will serve as the end user device Subject Matter Expert providing support to users when escalated by Desktop Support and Help Desk teams and perform root cause assessment and remediation. This role requires creativity, excellent communication skills, ability to work as a team and experienced with desktop packaging best practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manage Desktop and related application product lifecycle
- Proficient understanding of management tools for centralized desktop management, System Center, Active Directory, GPOs, and MDM solutions
- Develop and manage end user device related group policies and configurations
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of IT industry best practices, technologies, architectures and emerging technologies as related to desktop services
- Assist in developing mobility strategies and management including BYOD
- Partner with Desktop Support and Service Delivery to ensure the overall desktop user experience meets team member objectives
- Extensive trouble shooting and problem solving skills of complex technical end user device issues
- Hands-on experience with technical migrations
- Experienced in the use of application packaging and deployment technologies used in corporate environments including Windows Installer
- Working knowledge with traditional and virtualization application packaging technologies
- Engaging vendors in issue escalation and resolution when appropriate, such as with Multi-Function Devices
- Develop solutions for web-enabled application and considerations, ActiveX controls, plug-ins, compatibility needs and trusted zone security restriction
- Provide technical consultation and recommendations to assist management planning for Operating System upgrades and release planning
- Ensure Desktop Patch Management is effective and engineered optimally
- Develop hardware device standards, firmware deployment
- Windows and Mac OS Desktop image creation and OS hardening
- Management of end point protection solution providing end user device security (PCI and PII)
- Perform as a resource on projects when required
- Enjoy collaborating with team members and consulting the business stakeholders on optimal solutions
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Experience with multiple Operating Systems, including Windows 7/8/10, IOS, Android, and MAC OS
- Experience with and knowledge of AD design and GPO management
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Office and other enterprise applications, including ownership, support and management
- Microsoft Bit Locker
- Symantec SEP and VIP
- Skype for Business and Universal Communications (UC)
- Office 365 deployment and management
- ITIL knowledge and application of framework
- Excellent communication skills, with ability to organize work and execute support documentation
- Scripting Language experience, such as PowerShell
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- BA/BS computer science/information systems or other technical degree is required
- Five to seven years’ experience in Desktop Engineering
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer(MCSE) and SCCM certifications preferred
- Proven ability to support a strong member/customer service culture
- Experience leading and or mentoring team members
