Job Title:  Warehouse Supervisor - Distribution

Department: Warehouse

Reports to:  Warehouse Manager and Distribution Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Purpose

Facilitate, direct and manage the smooth flow, distribution and storage of freight. Properly receive, assign storage locations, and arrange for the loading and documentation of shipments. Assure the proper receiving and location of freight in the WMS. Responsible to schedule labor (in conjunction with management) in an efficient manner. Monitor and direct staff on service levels of the customer accounts and proper facility practices. Provide a positive work environment for all staff. Interacting with customer representatives, vendors and colleagues in a customer focused fashion at all times.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise a diverse group of permanent employees and temporary labor.  Supervise all employees to ensure they understand and act in accordance with all organization policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include hiring (with management oversight), training and evaluating employees, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure high quality customer service, professional communications, and interaction with customers, vendors, employees, and temporary employees at all times.  Direct customer interface for order, system and customer information.
  • Assure that all company material handling equipment is safely and efficiently operated. Report any defective equipment immediately and assure that unsafe equipment is taken from service. This includes, forklift, pallet jacks, dock plates, stretch film machines, small shipment meters/scales, and other items which are utilized by this facility.
  • Train staff in proper and safe lifting practices.
  • Handle the reporting, documentation, and follow through for repair or disposition all damaged freight, overages, and shortages immediately upon discovery or occurrence of damage.
  • Assure that warehouse staff file complete and accurate load/offload information and tally sheets on each shipment in a timely manner.
  • Train staff and monitor them to assure that the proper equipment is utilized efficiently to safely stack and store merchandise in the appropriate inventory location.
  • Manage a 10-15 member distribution team.
  • Monitor the loading of trailers to assure that cargo is loaded in a cube efficient manner, stowing cargo and bracing product to avoid damage and facilitate effective drop shipments.
  • Ensure that all operations occur in compliance with OSHA and SDS standards. Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area. Assure Temporary staff follow security protocol at all times in the warehouse and on facility grounds.
  • Monitor supplies to assure proper and ongoing operations.
  • Manage the labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing, repacking, and picking activities of all accounts.  
  • Ensure timely/accurate order processing.  Wave priority, order priority (start ship/cancel ship dates), replenishment, case to carton picks – proper flow in sequence to maximize productivity.  High velocity / large SKU count.
  • Support and actively comply with the security duties and responsibilities described in the C-TPAT Security Program document which was received and signed for upon hire.

 

Qualifications

 

Education and Experience

Two to six years in industry or related experience. 2-3 years Distribution Team lead/supervision experience is preferred.

 

Abilities

Ability to effectively prioritize multiple deadlines and complete tasks in a timely manner. Ability to learn new tasks as needs arise and retain information. Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced deadline oriented work environment.   Forklift certified.

 

Communication Skills / Computer Skills

Ability to effectively communicate in English, both written and verbal. Ability to work as a team member, as well as independently. Computer literate with proficient user skill levels in MS Office products. Proficient and experienced in WMS (Manhattan/PKMS – preferred) tools/systems.  Experience with RF Units (various models).

 

Mathematical Skills

Basic math skills required including intermediate-level multiplications and division; calculate pro-rated quantities by weight and measure.

 

Work Environment

Majority of time spent on feet in & out of potentially inclement weather. Typical non-heated warehouse dock environment.  Seasonal hot & cold temperatures will be experienced in warehouse environment.

 

Physical Requirements

Employee must lift 40 lbs on a frequent basis and up to 70 lbs on a less than frequent basis, sit for sporadic periods of time, and stand for up to 8 hours at a time while monitoring, training, and developing staff. Walk for up to 8 hours in a shift to assure smooth warehouse operations. Reach above head for storing materials (up to 40 lbs), grasp, handle, and perform finger operations. Must focus physical activity for extended periods of time to assist freight movement.
