Health and Safety Coordinator

Purpose

  • The purpose of this job description is to define and to provide a uniform understanding of the responsibilities and authority involved with the Health and Safety Coordinator position.

Job Summary

  • This position is responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of health, safety and environmental programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. This position reports directly to the Human Resources Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure that federal, state and local laws, regulations, rules and codes are observed.
  • Manage OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
  • Work with management to create policies to protect Company property and keep employees safe.
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace, conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Provide advice and counseling for all compliance regulations.
  • Help develop controls for identified hazards, coordinate the implementation of controls from result of hazard analysis. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate work place accidents and injuries.
  • Compile, analyze, interpret, and report accidents. Review property and injury reports. Responsible for the overall administration of workers compensation program.
  • Coordinate with environmental manager on development and implementation of haz mat procedure and policies.
  • Plan, develop and implement safety training for new employee orientation and annual required programs; Coordinate safety training for existing employees.
  • Serve as chair to Safety Committee and conduct regular safety meetings.
  • Assist in new employee orientation training.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree with 3-5 years related experience in safety, environmental, or health management and compliance.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Time management skills, ability to multi-task and problem solve with ease
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
