Summary: 

Responsible for management, organization and successful growth and development of a strong Customs Brokerage department.  Coordinate and oversee the CHB department to ensure the compliance of employees with the company policies, U.S. Customs regulations, customer service requirements/procedures, protection of the company bond/liability and day-to-day clearing of inbound cargo. Oversee, assist, train and maintain responsibility for the preparation of Customs entries and payment of duties. Maintain a high level of energy, attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks and duties or different importance, and multi-tasking abilities.


Management Responsibilities

Manages the Customs Brokerage department. Responsible for the overall direction, training, coordination and evaluation of this unit.  Responsibilities include hiring, training and evaluating employees, rewarding and disciplining employees, following established performance and wage increase guidelines, and addressing issues which need improvement.  The importance of providing leadership and organization to the group is essential.  Structure is needed in order to coordinate training and even distribution of the workload.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Organization and Leadership of the department.
  • Provide support to staff in order for them to be able to complete their responsibilities successfully.  Ensure that the Customs Brokerage Department is producing timely, quality and accurate flow of information – living up to our responsibility as part of the “big” picture of the logistics process as a whole.
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses of department and work to improve where needed – in terms of additional training, explanation, re-distribution of work, etc.
  • Ensure completion of accurate billing practices.  Monitor the “paid not billed” report to ensure that files are being billed in a timely fashion. 
  • Communicate with staff and internal departments to ensure that the information flow is happening in timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide management guidelines, training and organization to the department.  Show leadership abilities and initiative to make adjustment to systems to make the team more effective and efficient as a whole.
  • Outline responsibilities of staff.
  • Train, follow-up and support in proper training of department staff.
  • Communicate with VP of Operations, Branch Manager, and all staff. Ensure that they understand their responsibilities, address questions or need for additional training.


Qualifications:

Education/Experience

Must have and maintain an active Customs Brokerage License.

3-4 years Customs Brokerage import experience

3-4 years of experience in supervisory/management role in logistics – specifically within a Customs Brokerage department

 

Language Ability

Ability to respond to urgent requests and different communication styles in order to satisfy internal and external customer alike.  Must be able to push for resolution while maintaining positive relationships. 

Must effectively and accurately communicate technical information via written and oral communication, i.e. phone, fax and email. 

 

Math Ability

Basic mathematical computations. Appropriately add and compute fees, %’s,  taxes,  currency conversions, weight, Cube, Measures, US customs and other agency fees,  time zone, and schedule computations.
