We are seeking a hands on Chassis design engineer to join their highly skilled team of engineers in Plymouth, MI.
Vehicle Dynamics Engineer
Position Duties:
¨ Plan, design, conduct and write reports for chassis development and testing.
¨ Design, review and update vehicle dynamics test procedures to ensure continuous improvement with industry best-practices.
¨ Develop and implement new test procedures to verify new chassis designs and technology are correlated to real world customer usage.
¨ Verify quality of test data by applying statistical methods.
¨ Work with D&R engineers to develop test plans to maximize the utilization of prototype components, systems, and full vehicle.
¨ Perform accurate subjective evaluations of vehicle ride, handling, steering, stability and acceleration, deceleration performance characteristics.
¨ Collect, analyze and report vehicle attribute subjective and objective test data for benchmark, target-setting and program status reporting.
¨ Construct and maintain detailed, program-specific project schedule/timeline of tasks to develop vehicle dynamic attributes.
Requirements:
¨ Bachelor degree or above.
¨ Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to organize and present technical, fact-based information which is clear and effective to inform and influence others.
¨ High level of analytical problem solving skills in which problems are difficult or complex.
¨ Able to undertake short-term domestic and international travel – < 20%.
¨ 5+ plus years’ automotive OEM or Tier I supplier vehicle dynamics work experience.
¨ In-depth understanding of vehicle dynamics theory; expertise in vehicle, system and component test methods, data acquisition, post-processing and managing/reporting of vehicle dynamic attributes.
¨ Highly motivated individual who shows initiative in seeking solutions to complex problems; collaborates well with local and international colleagues – maintains good demeanor with positive outlook.
¨ Possession of valid current US driver’s license and ability to perform vehicle dynamic tests on proving grounds.
¨ Physically capable of occasional lifting of up to twenty-five (25) pounds, with intermittent bending, squatting, walking, and reaching above shoulder level, continuous sitting for approximately six (6) hours per day May continuously operate a video display terminal using repetitive movements of the wrist, hands and/or fingers. Job may be exposed to low noise levels.
