Job Summary:
In the Antepartum Unit setting, the RN is responsible for coordinating and documenting the care of the gravid woman and her fetus, which includes providing direct physical care and support of the woman, support person and family members during the antepartal phase.
To ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy, the Antepartum nurses should display good judgment and clinical reasoning skills, pay attention to details, possess the ability to make quick decisions and be able to work independently as well as with others. Good communication skills are an important part of their job responsibilities. It is important to be able to accurately communicate assessment/interventions to the physician as well as to provide education to the patient and her family.
The Antepartum Unit has 7 private rooms. It is a very quiet and relaxed environment. The nurses who work this unit are L&D trained. The unit is budgeted for 2 RNs/shift. When the census is low in Antepartum, the RNs will float to L&D. We have all private practice obstetricians and one midwife, 24/7 access to maternal fetal medicine and 24/7 on-site neonatology services. There are many opportunities for professional growth in the unit and within the hospital.
Education, Experience, and Requirements:
- Active Kentucky RN License
- BLS, NRP, ACLS
- Recent experience in L&D/Antepartum preferred
