MAJOR FUNCTION

The CareScope Project Coordinator Intern will work as a member of the CareScope team to assist with the quality assurance (QA) and implementation of tasks that relate to management of the CareScope software (a shared client data base). In this role, the Project Coordinator Intern will carry out strategies to ensure deliverables are completed successfully and timely, while maintaining the privacy and security of data to meet Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements.  Under the direction of the CareScope Project Supervisor, the CareScope Project Coordinator Intern will act as a liaison with the CareScope Project Team, IT Division, end users and the Indigent Health Care Division management team. This is an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing a career in Healthcare, Healthcare Informatics or in a Leadership role.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

The CareScope Project Coordinator Intern works in a team-oriented environment interacting with the Indigent Health Care Division, IT staff, Community Partners, and others. Assists with the development and implementation of training curriculum as needed.  Establishes and maintains constructive and cooperative working relationships among internal and external CareScope users and with the county’s IT Division.  Collaborates with the CareScope team and users to ensure QA and security measures are in place for system integrity and HIPAA compliance.  Collects, tracks, and analyzes data in an actionable format which supports decision making to meet goals and objectives of the Indigent Health Care Division and the CareScope Project.

The CareScope Project Coordinator Intern participates in collaborative planning activities and operational meetings pertaining to the CareScope Project.  Maintains an overview of projects and independently follows up or processes projects/actions in a timely manner.  Ensures all project documents (paper and electronic) are complete, current, and stored appropriately.  Coordinates meetings and prepares agendas and presentations under the direction of the CareScope Project Supervisor.  Reviews and recommends updates to established policies/procedures, including QA and security procedural guidelines. The position requires a productivity log be maintained illustrating tasks performed. Assists CareScope Project Supervisor development of short and long range strategic plans.  Performs related and other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security practices and safeguards. Ability to perform independently or as a member of multiple team efforts across diverse groups, who are responsible for providing county services. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects at one time. Ability to analyze, detect, and verify areas of opportunities, and recommend solutions or alternatives. Ability to clearly define system needs.  Must be proficient in Microsoft software applications and have the analytical skills to effectively and accurately interpret large sets of data. Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize accordingly and have the flexibility of changing work priorities. Self-motivated and able to troubleshoot and problem solve using critical thinking.. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must have excellent organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Ability to see, ambulate independently, bend, stoop, sit, and stand.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in Bachelor’s Degree program in Health Care, Business, IT, or a related field.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal skills in working with others in a professional manner
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
  • Must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the ability to use/learn various computer software systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver's license at the time of employment.

 SPECIAL PREFERENCE

Prefer applicants with knowledge and experience with Health Information Technology, Health Information Exchanges, Electronic Medical Records, SQL, and other applicable federal and state regulations.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must provide and utilize personal transportation in daily travel to remote sites to perform assigned duties and obtain personal injury protection insurance. Must have a phone within thirty (30) days of employment in this classification as employee. Must be available to work at various locations throughout Polk County.

Must be available to work special assignments such as shelter duty during emergency activation of special needs shelters within Polk County.

$9.00 / hour
