The Medicines Company, a rapidly growing and diversifying Biotechnology firm wishes to engage a Director level Scientific Communications Professional to provide strategic and operational input into core medical affairs activities. The Director will work closely with sales, marketing and communications teams to provide strategic medical input and training into core brand strategies.

The Director will support medical/marketing activities and market access. He/She will be the primary interface for Scientific Communications when engaging with all stakeholders associated with the development and release of products, including Research and Development, Value and Global Health Science teams.

The scope of the Medical Affairs related activities encompass clinical trials, publication, medical education and medical information. While focused initially on a major new product in development, all members of the team are expected to have the agility to support colleagues working on other products and to adapt to shifting strategic objectives. 

The Director, Scientific Communications at The Medicines Company is an exciting new role which, if successful, will position the individual well to help build out a larger team and move into leadership positions.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and operational input into core medical affairs activities including;
    • Developing communications platforms,
    • Building a publication plan and execution of the plan
    • Interacting with external experts and influencers
    • Generation of scientific data designed to enhance therapeutic benefit and value proposition
    • Develop education initiatives such as medical education, data, guidelines and value proposition.
    • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing and Communications to develop core brand strategies.
    • Team to support medical marketing activities such as promotional material, product launches and market access.
    • Develop and then collaborate with all stakeholders to execute an integrated Medical Affairs plan including clinical trials, publication, medical education and medical information.

Do you want to:

  • Lead the development and ongoing maintenance of an integrated medical and scientific communications strategy, with supporting scientific platforms, for assigned assets within the therapeutic area?
  • In cooperation with affiliate medical departments, Marketing, RA, Clinical and other functional areas, provides leadership, oversight and support for assigned products/projects?
  • Initiate medical affairs activities and generation and dissemination of data supporting overall product scientific and business strategy?
  • Assist in the development of scientifically accurate marketing materials, medical education programs, advisories, and symposia?
  • Assist with the scientific review, development, execution and communication of affiliate/area/ medical affairs sponsored or supported clinical research activities?
  • Lead cross functional sub teams responsible for discrete projects within the therapeutic area (individual publications or study collaborations)?
  • In partnership with Field Medical team, oversee the development of the congress scientific communication and educational strategies to support full integration of communications and scientific programming at congresses of strategic importance?
  • Oversee the creation, alignment of publication strategies with cross functional partners, ensuring robust integration of these strategies with the scientific platform for the asset?
  • In partnership with internal stakeholders, lead the representation and alignment of the Scientific Communications strategies and platforms, together with the publication strategies, on the relevant Asset Development Team?
  • Oversee medical education initiatives to ensure reach and resource optimization for Medical Affairs?
  • May assist in the development of scientifically accurate marketing materials, medical education programs, advisories, and symposia?
  • As an integral member of the Medical Affairs team, partner with Medical Affairs lead to develop/contribute to the development of Advisory Board strategies for the assigned Product(s). Oversee post Advisory Board meeting communications to ensure timely communication of key learnings to inform and impact future strategic direction and impact on relevant scientific platform?

 

Your background will look like this:

  • Possess a PharnD, PhD or MD qualification
  • 6-8 years of Medical Affairs experience including roles that supported or integrated medical communications strategies, such as field based medical affairs, publications, therapeutic areas and commercial teams.
  • Experience in leading the development of product launch medical materials with excellent execution skill.
  • Experience in leading the development and execution of cross functional scientific communications, with demonstrated expertise in the cross functional collaboration needed to develop, cascade and support utilization of scientific communications across externally facing communication teams within a biopharmaceutical environment.
  • Must work well within the pharmaceutical environment, with a strong understanding of the cultural dynamics and unique aspects of medical affairs success across The Medicines Company Medical Affairs and partner organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence across teams, with a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of teams critical to aligned scientific communications including Clinical Development,  Health Economic and Outcomes Research, Public Affairs, Investor relations and Commercial teams
