Baptist Health - Lexington:
Over our 50-plus year history, Baptist Health Lexington has grown both in size and reputation, due in large part to the quality of care – and the caring touch – of our nurses.
When the hospital opened in 1954, the nursing staff numbered fewer than 100. Today, the hospital has more than 900 nurses (part-time and full-time). The average length of experience of a Baptist Health Lexington nurse is more than 13 years, bringing a wealth of information and expertise to patients’ bedsides.
The glaringly white, starched uniforms and white shoes are no more, but something more important remains – a fundamental belief in quality, compassionate nursing and a commitment to the patient.
Nursing values at Baptist Health Lexington include compassion, acceptance, respect and empathy, which are demonstrated throughout the organization with patients, other employees and our community. These values support the implementation of caring into our culture in support of theories, as articulated by Dr. Jean Watson, a national nursing theorist. Baptist Health Lexington is a member of the Caritas Consortium, a group of nursing leaders from invited institutions throughout the world who support the integration of caring into the healthcare environment.
Baptist Health Lexington was recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center with Magnet Status in 2005. Magnet facilities are recognized through research as having a lower nursing turnover rate and higher patient satisfaction. Magnet status is regarded as the "seal of approval" for quality nursing care.
