Title: Underwriter - Mortgage Insurance 

Location: Radnor, PA or Remote

This is an individual contributor position which works under regular supervision and is responsible for the reviewing and underwriting of mortgage insurance applications to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with Essent guidelines.  Maintains productivity, quality, and service level standards while delivering consistent sound underwriting decisions and exceptional customer service.

As a dynamic and resourceful professional, we will rely on you to perform the following duties:

•       Underwrite mortgage insurance application files for acceptable risk based on published guidelines. 
• Analyze loan characteristics and risk factors to determine mortgage insurance eligibility and make sound underwriting decisions in accordance with published underwriting guidelines
• Document underwriting decisions, conditions, and rationale accurately within company systems and workflow tools.
• Apply Essent underwriting guidelines, lender-specific variances, and any approved underwriting programs consistently while exercising appropriate underwriting judgment.
• Execute tasks to meet established productivity and quality metrics. 
• Work closely with Lenders, Essent BD Team members and appropriate Manager for guideline and process clarification, in addition to effectively communicating loan level decisions. 
• Participate in training, staff meetings, and respond to QA reviews.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

•       High School diploma/GED; bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
• Three (3) years of underwriting experience in the mortgage banking industry required
• Specific mortgage insurance industry experience, including knowledge of premium coverage requirements, desirable
• Willingness to participate in overtime and weekend work when needed to support Essent turn-time service level agreements. 
• Superior customer service skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Self-motivated and detail oriented
• Excellent organizational, technical and relationship skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Capable of presenting difficult responses in a positive manner to protect client relationships
• Ability to maintain quality standards while maintaining acceptable productivity levels
• Expertise knowledge of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines and DU/LPA automated underwriting systems.
• Capable of performing complex self-employment income calculations
• Experienced user of Microsoft Office suite and ability to work effectively with imaging and workflow systems 
• Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities with conflict deadlines
• Strong collaboration and teamwork focus with ability to work productively as part of a team and as an individual contributor
