Title: Senior Accountant

Location: Columbia, MO

This is an individual contributor position which operates under limited supervision to perform activities of the accounting department necessary for the accurate and timely dissemination of internal and external financial reports.  Supervise staff accountants. Assist with the annual audits, and the accounting team’s preparation and filing of SEC and statutory reports.

As a dynamic and resourceful professional, we will rely on you to perform the following duties:
  • A key member of the Accounting team with responsibilities including, but not limited to, monthly and quarterly accounting for the preparation of GAAP, statutory and financial reports and supporting analysis relating to the business. Work with financial and operational management to ensure timely and accurate financial statements and other internal financial presentations including related workpapers. Assist in the preparation and filing of all required regulatory and other external financial reports.
  • Prepare monthly Board packages.
  • Prepare and review required journal entries and assist with the maintenance of the general ledger and other Oracle accounting modules.
  • Prepare and process daily accounting tasks including disbursements and interfaces from external systems.
  • Act as a control operator within the accounting department’s key SOX controls, including reconciliation of key accounts to supporting sub-ledger or detail. Assist in the preparation and presentation of variance analysis for monthly cost center review, as well as coordinating monthly reporting distribution with various department heads.
  • Assist with the preparation of ad hoc analyses and special projects as needed, including Rating Agency and GSE decks.
  • Assist in system integration or enhancing existing modules within accounting systems.
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of documentation for the annual audits, annual budgets and other internal and external financials as needed.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to staff accountants, co-ops, and interns.
  • Identify ways to continuously improve the monthly accounting close process through technology and process enhancements.
  • Maintain accounting records and files.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Three plus (3+) years of public accounting experience or relevant experience in multiple disciplines including financial reporting, general accounting, accounting operations, etc. in a sophisticated accounting environment.
  • CPA and SEC reporting experience preferred.
  • Insurance industry experience and knowledge of insurance statutory accounting principles a plus.
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a leadership role.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to identify and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with technology, specifically Microsoft Windows and Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and accounting systems; Oracle experience preferred.
