We are working on an engineering leadership role with a state-of-the-art commercial greenhouse company that is looking for a Director of Engineering. The position provides development and leadership to a team that will support the construction, and operation of controlled greenhouses. This role is ideal for someone who wants to help develop the industry, has genuine curiosity and drive.
Remote role: ideal location is East Coast & Midwest. Will consider other locations for perfect fit and open to travel.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead a team of greenhouse, electrical, mechanical, process and commissioning engineering to support site development, construction, commissioning, operation, and upgrades of large-scale controlled environment greenhouses
  • Responsible for the development of all greenhouse equipment, and system specifications, and project designs. Ensure safety of operation is designed into each project and all codes are met
  • Assist with the creation of project scope, schedule, and budgets
  • Support Director of Procurement with technical expertise throughout the procurement process
  • Be the lead technical advisor for all new capital and operational projects
  • Identify and partner with eternal professionals who provide technical expertise and support through design, construction, commissioning and turnover to operations
  • Ensure that the technical and quality requirements of the company are met through installation and lesson learned reviews
  • Actively identify equipment and system improvement opportunities
  • Coordinate with the Director of Facility Management to develop a robust preventive maintenance program based on equipment and the system provider’s recommendations and best industry practices
  • Provide mentoring, performance evaluations, and lead the Engineering team aligned with company values, development, engineering, construction group mission
  • Provide weekly and monthly status reports on all engineering projects
  • Identify and execute appropriate training opportunities for engineering projects
  • Develop a team safety awareness culture on assigned projects from the design phase through construction and into operations
  • Ensure all relevant internal controls are followed and recommend new controls as needed
  • Maintain a keen focus on identifying and recommending continuous improvement initiatives aimed at delivering projects more efficiently in terms of time, cost, quality, and safety. The goal is to develop a project execution platform that is best in class.
Required Skills/Qualifications:  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing engineering or the equivalent combination and experience is need
  • Preference may be given to candidates with an understanding of the agriculture industry as it relates to hydroponics and greenhouse growing operations
  • 10+ years’ experience in engineering, startup, and commissioning of equipment and systems
  • 7+ years’ experience in engineering management within agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, or related industries
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with strong focus on teamwork and interface with a broad range of work groups
  • Ability to analyze project ricks and proactively identify solutions with a flexible creative, and solution-focused outlook on problem solving
  • Strong prioritization and multitasking skills with the ability to operate in a complex, rapidly changing business environment with typically tight schedules and demanding targets
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Primavera or MS Projects scheduling tools, and cost management software
  • Self-starter and can manage multiple projects efficiently
  • Positive collaborative team attitude
  • Inquisitive mindset, ability to take calculated risks and willing to recognize and react as necessary
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% and work from home the rest
  • All new hires must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 before starting.
