We are looking for a Communications Specialist to join our team. Our Communications Specialist will support the Chamber’s marketing communications efforts by assuming responsibility for a range of projects both internal and external, focusing largely on writing for various digital platforms. Here’s more about what you’d be doing at the Grand Rapids Chamber:

  • Research and interview members of the Chamber and of the community to contribute to communications strategy.
  • Manage external bi-weekly blog through the writing, editing and proofreading process.
  • Develop branding and graphic designs for social media, printed event programs, PowerPoint presentations, web pages, events, and blogs.
  • Utilize MailChimp tool for e-mail marketing blasts for all members and targeted groups.
  • Manage the Chamber podcast schedule, identify and research guests, prepare talking points, and assist with audio setup at the time of the recording.
  • Develop and write scripts for various videos and events held by the Chamber.
  • Write event descriptions and prepare any other materials needed at an event (signage, programs, etc.)
  • Prepare and develop content for the quarterly Chamber newsletter, which includes planning, writing, and editing.
  • Interview guests and transcribe content to be used in articles, newsletters and podcasts.
  • Support cross functional coordination with Program and Events teams. Develop design and delivery based on content provided by various teams.
  • Integrate the Chamber’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals within business services programs, talent development programs and initiatives.

Here’s who we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism or Communications or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in marketing, writing and graphic design.
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office, databases, and social media.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop creative and persuasive copy. Must be adept at creative thinking.
  • Must have strong project management skills and the ability to respond to multiple tasks simultaneously, properly prioritize projects, work well under pressure, and self-manage deadlines.
