Beginning in 1983, Heartside Ministry is a relationship-based social service agency serving neighbors in downtown Grand Rapids. Heartside Ministry began as a small outreach to the homeless and disenfranchised people of the street, on a blighted section of Division Avenue in Grand Rapids, MI. Heartside provides programs in the Arts, Education and Advocacy, and Pastoral and Social Justice.

Heartside Ministry is seeking a Director of Development who will actively lead our fund development efforts. This multifaceted role will carry out the mission of Heartside Ministry through public relations and communications. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, a strategic thinker, and passionate about the mission of Heartside Ministry.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to articulate annual development strategies and campaign tactics
  • Identify new prospects, acquire new donors and increase gift prospects to meet the current and long-term financial needs for Heartside Ministry
  • Implementation of annual departmental plans, budgeting, and expense management
  • Supervision of the Annual Giving programs
  • Network in our community to advance the mission of Heartside Ministry
  • Lead, plan, and direct annual corporate, foundation and sponsorship appeals including proposal development and government grants
  • Develop and deliver presentations about the mission and work of Heartside Ministry to churches, businesses, groups, etc.
  • Plan and oversee fund development and mission advancement events (i.e. annual luncheon, annual gala, house parties)
  • Communicate with the community at large through newsletters, brochures, interacting with the media and utilizing social media
  • Engage in coalition building with partner agencies

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications , Fund Development or related field.
  • Three (3) years of serving in a fund development capacity with a nonprofit
  • Previous work in a Fund Development Software
  • Passionate about serving the underrepresented in Grand Rapids
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to think creatively, develop plans, research and take responsibility for results
