The Grand Rapids Symphony was established in 1930 and has received national recognition for the high quality of its concerts and educational programs.  The Grand Rapids Symphony presents more than 400 performances each year, touching the lives of some 200,000.  Nearly half of those who benefit are students, senior citizens and people with disabilities reached through extensive education and community service programs.

The Grand Rapids Symphony is seeking a Patron Relations Assistant to join their growing team.  The Patron Relations Assistant is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations of all Executive and Development Department activities.  This position works in close collaboration with the President, VP for Development and Asst VP of Administration and Board Relations, and is an office-based full-time professional position.  Duties include general clerical, meeting scheduling/planning and project-based work. 

What you’ll be doing each day:

  • Provide clerical support for the President, VP for Development and the Assistant VP of Administration and Board Relations
  • Assist with reports for the Board and other leadership
  • Coordinate and assist in the development of communication pieces, particularly funding proposals and applications
  • Assist with all fundraising event logistics including RSVP collection and tracking, seating assignments, and event follow-up
  • Coordinate and execute mailings
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Professional presentation, with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and an energetic and engaging personality
  • Excellent organizational skills, with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Preferred prior exposure to fund-raising processes and databases
  • Demonstrated ability to handle donor interest and personal information with tact and sensitivity, in a confidential manner
  • Ability to work collaboratively with  a strong donor-relations orientation
  • Ability to set and meet realistic goals, establish work priorities, organize people and materials to reach goals, handle pressure well, and evaluate and report results
  • Ability to multi-task while handling varied work expectations and timelines 
  • A strong administrator with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
