Organized in 1887, the Chamber convenes and leads a collection of business and community stakeholders to provide services targeted to increase growth and opportunity. It has a membership of nearly 2,400 businesses, 25 professional staff, and a $3.4 million budget. The Chamber is proud of its innovative programs that support talent development, advocacy/public policy, and business services.

We are looking for a Director of Marketing & Communications to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer, you will be responsible for establishing and implementing the Chamber’s strategic communications, brand guidelines, and marketing plan in order to enhance the Chamber’s membership experience and community impact, while also managing the operations and budgets of the Chamber’s marketing team.

Here’s more about what you’d be doing at the Grand Rapids Chamber:

  • Provide direction to marketing team members and other colleagues to consistently guide the Chamber’s brand, marketing, and communications.
  • Develop and oversee a communications strategy directed at Chamber members, community stakeholders and targeted audiences to keep them informed about key business trends, Chamber efforts and programs, and information key to business success
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining a marketing strategy to attract and retain membership, and engage Chamber members in programs, events, and services
  • Ensure Chamber communication tools (i.e. websites, social media, newsletters, digital campaigns) are up-to-date and engage members and other targeted audiences to advance the organization’s strategy
  • Develop and utilize a working knowledge of marketing, communications and event trends and best practices in order to guide the Chamber’s priorities, advise colleagues and members, and represent the Chamber
  • Serve as the Chamber’s media point of contact
  • Manage a volunteer committee to engage members in the Chamber’s communications and marketing strategy
  • Craft content for Chamber communications (website, newsletters, e-mails, etc.)
  • Manage the marketing teams’ workload and develops annual work plans and budgets
  • Collaborate with Chamber teams to fulfill program and service objectives to retain and attract members
  • Maintain strong relationships with business and community leaders and has awareness of past, present, and future community issues/priorities
  • Integrate the Chamber’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals within marketing, communications, and the overall Chamber brand experience
  • Participate in leadership team meetings to help advance the Chamber’s strategies and goals
  • Actively demonstrate commitment to the Chamber’s vision, mission, and organizational goals

Here’s who we’re looking for:

  • 4 year degree
  • At least 5 years’ experience in marketing, communications, brand management & fulfillment or related experience
  • Proven background and experience advising and interacting with community and business leaders
  • Ability to think strategically and implement simultaneously
  • Strong decision-making skills and the determination to see projects through to the end
  • Proven team building and management experience
  • Strong computer knowledge especially in the creative space
