Environmental Health and Safety Intern

HR Collaborative offers solutions in the areas of Environmental and Safety Compliance, Talent Acquisition, Compensation Planning, Benefit Design, Performance Management and HR Strategy.

Position Summary

 
We believe that offering internships to motivated college students is a win/win for all involved! As the Environmental Health and Safety Intern, you will work with our talented and experienced Environmental and Safety Consultant to develop best practices and processes supporting our manufacturing clients. This is a unique opportunity to receive specialized training and exposure to a variety of different clients in West Michigan. Don’t pass this up! Specifically the incumbent will:

  • Assist in client walk-throughs to develop a list of regulatory requirements and program gaps
  • Promote the safety and wellness of our client’s employees, the environment, and ensure safety compliance
  • Participate in the assessment of hazards at a client site and identify the appropriate protective equipment (JSAs and PPE assessments)
  • Assist in the review process of EHS programs, policies and training materials
  • Use your detective skills to investigate incidents within the workplace
  • Learn the ins and outs of an OSHA inspection and how to prepare a client for one
  • Create and prepare training programs to be presented and used with clients
  • Assist in the writing of safety programs and plans specific to a client
  • Create and maintain filing systems to organize records, reports and logs
  • Participate in client safety committee meetings
  • Conduct ergonomic evaluations

 
Qualifications

  • Junior or Senior currently enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate program with a preferred course of study in Occupational Safety and Health Management or related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must have excellent oral, written and interactive communication skills
  • Skilled in effective research tactics and strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to maintain high standards of confidentiality
  • Ability to convey a positive and professional image to internal and external customers
  • Ability to have a flexible work schedule based on project ebbs and flows.   0-15 hours / week
  • Reliable transportation to travel to client sites across the Western Michigan area and beyond.
