Our client is looking for an experienced Human Resource Manager who is passionate about making a positive impact and implementing best practices.  

Our client has doubled sales over the last 5 years and has grown to approximately 400 full-time and seasonal employees. The company is targeting to double sales again over the next 5 years and is looking for a dynamic Human Resources professional to help build the organizational foundation to support that growth.  The position is based at the corporate headquarters in Grand Rapids and will support satellite offices in Holland, Muskegon, and Kalamazoo.

As a member of the company’s leadership team, the position is responsible for leading the establishment and implementation of human resources strategies to support overall business plans and objectives. The company is committed to the professional growth of their employees and a major initiative for this position is to creating a comprehensive organizational development program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive strategic and tactical HR planning and execution for organization-wide initiatives, including staffing, compensation, benefit programs, safety, employee relations, training, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Execute strategy changes and improvements by conducting research and analysis of emerging business trends, coordinating with leadership to align business plans with organizational growth and development.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor direct reports on the human resource team.
  • Work with leaders, managers, and employees to establish and maintain a positive and team focused work environment that promotes retention.
  • Provide leadership for the staffing process by creating recruitment strategies promoting a pipeline of talent and top quality candidate selection.
  • Drive a performance management culture by creating systems and processes to develop individuals at all levels through performance management, training, and professional growth development plans.
  • Create an effective compensation strategy ensuring compensation programs are externally competitive, internally equitable, and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Manage group benefit programs, ensuring that programs are cost effective to the organization, compliant, and effective in attracting and retaining employees.
  • Provide direction and oversight to payroll and human resource related record keeping.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to human resources related regulations and legislation, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Consult with managers and provide guidance and coaching when appropriate. Establish close working relationships to understand business objectives and requirements.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field.
  • 5 to 10 years’ progressive experience in Human Resources.
  • PHR, SPHR or SHRM certification preferred.
  • Leader who is collaborative and adept at creating alignment.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a vision, sell it to leadership, then execute to support culture and business.
  • Experience leading an HR team.
  • Experience in coaching, advising, and communicating with employees at multiple levels from front-line hourly employees to executives.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
