Human Rights First is seeking a LGBT Advocacy Intern who, under the direction of the Advocacy Counsel, will provide administrative and programmatic support to the day-to-day operations of the LGBT Program and help advance the program’s advocacy goals. The LGBT Advocacy Intern will work closely with program staff on a variety of research and administrative projects.
Administrative Support
  • Assist with reception coverage, including answering phones, replying to requests for assistance on LGBT issues, and responding to correspondence from partner organizations;
  • Assist and maintain program staff calendars;
Program Support
  • Monitor and attend congressional hearings;
  • Represent the organization at partner organizations’ roundtables, teleconferences, panels and events;
  • Update organizational databases that monitor hate crimes and legislative challenges to the international LGBT community;
  • Assist in the development and execution of LGBT Program-sponsored events and meetings;
  • Research legislators’ backgrounds and voting records; and
  • Coordinate with other HRF staff on government advocacy and research initiatives as needed.
EDUCATION:  Currently enrolled or recently graduated from an accredited undergraduate university.
START DATE:         Late May/early June 2014
TIME COMMITMENT:   Full time, minimum of 10 – 12 weeks
