This position is part of the corporate accounting team and will be responsible for the following activities. Prepares journal entries and account reconciliations in accordance with generally-accepted accounting principles. Prepares documentation in support of external and internal audits and is a key control activity owner for purposes of Sarbanes-Oxley.
Responsible for lease accounting, including capital vs. operating lease analysis, vehicles, equipment, rents, and lease abandonments for assigned office locations.
Responsible to manage the capital expenditure request and approval process, works closely with business partners and IT on real estate moves and leasehold improvements, software development projects, and other strategic initiatives ensuring the proper classification and recording in the general ledger.
Maintains ADP system and interface to general ledger for payroll entries.
Calculates various accrual and reserve calculations.
Participates in merger and acquisition integration work.
Performs ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigates issues, providing explanations and interpretation.
Performs work in a self-directed manner and works with less structured, more complex issues. Serves as a resource to other departments.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
CPA preferred but not required.
Advanced degree and /or certification desired.
Minimum five years of general ledger accounting experience, including experience in a corporate accounting role that is related to responsibilities of this position.
Experience with multi-company, multi-location environment required.
Experience in Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industry preferred.
Practical experience using a large accounting system such as Lawson, Oracle, SAP, etc.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong knowledge of GAAP and ongoing technical accounting proficiency sufficient to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of the books and records of the Company.
Strong problem solving skills with the proven ability to provide innovative ideas, solutions and to implement change.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the principles, procedures and best practices related to this position.
Ability to change and contribute to a continuous improvement environment.
Ability to handle complaints and provide customer service to internal/external customers.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with all employee levels and customers.
Ability to work with confidential material and maintain confidentiality along with sensitivity to employee and customer needs and data.
Focused attention to detail and analytical skills.
Advanced level of software proficiency and understanding of technology to support activities, especially Microsoft Excel and Access.
Team oriented and a motivated self-starter.
Other (Required licenses, certifications, schedule flexibility/OT, travel etc.):
Must have scheduling flexibility to meet the demands of monthly, quarterly, and year-end close schedules.
Overnight travel on occasion.
