SUMMARY

 
  • Provide structural design and engineering functions for the SCR Group Engineering Team.
  • Provides technical support as required for customer service and project needs.
  • Provides periodic field support during ductwork and structure installations as required to support project work.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Perform structural engineering work and design.
  • Work closely with staff structural engineers and CAD designers.
  • Create structural design documentation related to SCR gas duct systems for power station and industrial boiler applications, including but not limited to, specifications, material estimates and calculations. 
  • Design, develop, and select ductwork and structures required for an SCR system; including the design code requirements, operating loads, ductwork thermal effects and internal pressures.
  • Provide assistance engineering support as required for equipment skid base designs and pipe support systems.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for ductwork and structures.
  • Support selected fabricators and erection contractors.
  • Coordinate with outside consultants when outsourcing in necessary.
  • Review and check shop fabrication documents.
  • Cooperate with the SCR team on all proposals submitted by the corporation.
  • Interface with the SCR design section of MHI’s Nagasaki Works as directed by Engineering Manager.
  • Provide project management to selected projects as directed by Senior Structural Engineer..
  • Familiarity with engineering codes, including but not limited to IBC, UBC, AISC, ANSI, ASME, AWS, API, ASME, and ASTM.

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering from four-year college or university in structural engineering or a related filed. Successful completion of en engineering internship.  Familiarity with high temperature ductwork design for power plants and boiler applications and support structures desired.  Capable of performing structural dynamics analysis for rotating equipment.
  •  Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. 
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills:  Proficient with the following structural computer analysis programs:  RISA-3D and STAADPro.   Knowledge of database, mathcad, spreadsheet and word processing software, electronic mail, graphics, technical diagrams, flow charts, etc.
