|Description||Position: Layout/Fitter (Structural Steel)
Requires blueprint reading, fitting experience, and good shop math ability. Must be able to do own layout and fit up from blue print and work with little supervision. Welding experience is a plus
•Must be able to lift up to 75lbs
•Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
•Tack-weld fitted parts together.
•Lie out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed in order to ensure that specifications are met.
•Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
•Locate and mark work piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
•Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, and/or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding
•Study engineering drawings, hand sketches and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
•Move parts into position, manually or by using hoists or cranes.
•Hammer, chip, and grind work pieces in order to cut, bend, and straighten metal.
•Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to work pieces, using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone.
•Set up face blocks, jigs, and fixtures.
•Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
$13.00-$16.00 Per hour (D.O.E.)
