Project Engineer / Structural Bridge Engineer
We are seeking a seasoned engineer with knowledge of structural/bridge design and engineering techniques along with a familiarity and prior experience with design standards for the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). We will rely on you to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adjustment of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. You will devise unique approaches to problem solving, prepare/modify drawings, specifications, design calculations, cost estimates, and monitor/review work for compliance to applicable codes and accepted DRG engineering practices. Your typical duties will include, but are not limited to, the preparation, review, and adjustment of the following:
  • Structural/bridge engineering calculations
  • Structural/bridge engineering design, layout, and plans
  • Structural/bridge engineering project specifications
  • Structural/bridge engineering portion of project cost estimates
  • Structural/bridge engineering portion of project proposals
  • Field work such as bridge inspections and construction observation
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Research design options and document findings
  • Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience
  • Prepare layout and details of structural/bridge projects
  • Provide drawings and/or sketches of designs to be incorporated by structural technicians/drafters
  • Develop construction cost estimates for projects
  • Coordinate with and direct work of structural technicians/drafters
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines such as roadway, mechanical, electrical, etc.
  • Review shop drawings
  • May serve in lead engineer’s role and/or designated client contact on projects assigned by Structural Group Leader
  • Handle routine contract administration
  • Use computer-based engineering design software and equipment to prepare engineering design documents
  • Perform field activities such as obtaining field conditions, verifying measurements, construction observation, bridge inspections, and other related activities within project area
  • Willing, capable, and experienced in performing assigned duties/responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
  • At least two years of experience with advanced knowledge in structural engineering obtained through a combination of experience and continuing education
  • Detail oriented, with solid organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with structural design software such as LEAP Software, ConSpan, RC Pier, StaadPro, EnerCalc, MDX or equivalent analysis software
  • Working knowledge/experience with HECRAS or equivalent hydraulic modeling software
  • Working knowledge/experience with MircoStation and GeoPAK software
