Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
 
The dedicated leader we seek will be a key executive member of the Girl Scouts team, by being responsible for the financial and operational management of the business. You will provide leadership in all financial aspects of the business, including development of the annual and long-term budgets/forecasts and providing analysis and commentary on the financial impact of operational and strategic initiatives of Girl Scouts. In addition, we will rely on you to provide leadership for human resources, retail operations, including organizational development and design, legal and risk management matters and asset planning.
 
Responsibilities:
Strategy:
  • Maintain a constant, in-depth working relationship with the CEO, and other senior executives
  • Develop tools and systems in order to provide critical financial and operational information to the Executive team
  • Oversee, manage and plan all areas associated with finance, accounting and tax functions
  • Work in partnership with Board of Directors and Board committees and serve as a liaison with committees
  • Take an active role in capital campaigns, managing finances, donations and community involvement
 
Executive Management:
  • Participate in setting the organization’s strategic direction, translating the vision/goals set by the Board of Directors
  • Participate in key decision making as a member of the executive team
  • Manage and partner with our co-employer; our PEO
  • Make sure the council is in compliance with local, state, federal and non-profits regulations
  • Responsible for government and non-government audits
 
Financial Planning and Analysis:
  • Prepare and maintain regular financial planning reports
  • Lead and manage annual and interim budgeting and forecasting cycles
  • Develop strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements, identifying monetary resources; developing action plans, managing budgets and developing tax and cash flow strategies
  • Participate in continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of departmental managers on financial issues impacting their budgets
  • Provide financial analysis as needed, in particular for strategic initiatives, capital investments, growth opportunities, pricing decisions and contract negotiations; provide financial input on decision-making issues affecting Girl Scouts
  • Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed
  • Manage the council’s relationship with local financial communities and institutions
 
Operational:
  • Resolve operational issues including HR, contract and legal negotiations, office and facilities management, budgeting, compensation and bonus plans, and investor communication
  • Evaluate weekly, monthly and annual data and develop it into metrics and recommendations; work with team leaders to increase efficiency and drive continuous improvement within different functional areas of Girl Scouts.
  • Manage the design of an organizational structure for the Accounting/Finance department's goals and objectives
  • Perform other projects and duties at the request of Girl Scouts’ leadership and/or Board of Directors
  • Maximize operations for all retail operations, camp trading posts, GSSWT shops and mobile leadership
 
Qualifications:
The motivated team player we seek will possess the following experience, abilities and skills: 
  • Three to five years’ experience as a CFO preferably in a non-profit, with 5 years experience in financial and accounting roles
  • CPA license
  • Bachelor's degree; MBA degree preferred
  • High level of written and oral communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial spirit/mindset, flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity, while providing stability to the financial planning process
  • Must be willing to work in a hands-on role where you may be supporting both complex and fairly basic functional responsibilities
  • Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on timely analyses
  • Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English)
  • Ability and flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Genuine ability to translate complex financial reporting into easily-understood material and communication to all levels of audience
  • Experience in financial software implementation and conversions
  • Experience in 990 reports and solid understanding the Office of Management and Budget Circular A133 audit
  • Experience in donor investment and grant reporting
  • Ability to articulate a passion for the Girl Scout mission and vision
  • Experience in government audits
