The Network Engineer is responsible for supporting, maintaining, monitoring, and tuning of a multitude of network devices encompassing routing, switching, firewalls, load-balancers, wireless, optical gear…etc.
· Analyze current network state, including capacity, and recommend changes · Utilize various network tools to identify and recreate issues · Document findings, create standard procedures and update knowledge base · Troubleshoot, troubleshoot, troubleshoot · Own problem remediation including analysis, recommendation, and implementation · Interact with other teams for a variety of company initiatives · Participate in setting and modifying network standards · Identify and evaluate new tools · Lab engineering work to recreate incidents, test configurations, and conduct POCs · Create and deliver effective presentations to peers and management · Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation
· Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience · At least 5 years of experience in Network Engineering with an emphasis on incident response and problem resolution · Expert understanding of, and experience with, internetworking technologies, such as o iBGP, eBGP, OSPF, OSPFv3, MPLS, STP, PBR, NetFlow, ACLs · Good understanding of hardware capabilities and limitations of network devices, such as o Routers – Cisco CRS, Cisco ASR9000, Cisco 7600 o Switches – Nexus 7000 and 5000, Catalyst 6500/4900/4500 o Firewalls – Cisco ASA and FWSM, Palo Alto Networks Firewall o Load Balancers – Cisco ACE, F5, A10 · Familiarity with network monitoring and management best practices · Must be able to handle stressful and difficult situations in a calm professional manner · Must have strong quantitative, analytical and conceptual thinking skills · Must be able to work independently and be an effective contributor in a diversified team · Must work well within a deadline-driven environment · Able to quickly adapt to changes in process, requirements, goals, and organizational change · Able to be on call for incident notifications and management · Able to work overtime as required · Proven skills in problem solving and decision making · Outstanding written and verbal communication skills · Strong customer service skills · Additional skills/background of the following would be a plus: o ITIL and COBIT certification or related experience o Working knowledge of end-to-end QoS for LAN/WAN/MPLS networks o Working knowledge of optical transport technologies utilizing DWDM o Familiarity with WLAN concepts and operation o Experience operating hosting networks or service provider networks o Specific experience with CA Spectrum, CA Infrastructure Manager, Zabbix, PeakFlow SP, PeakFlow X, Statseeker, HP NA, Syslogng, Splunk o Advanced network certifications such as CCIE Route/Switch or CCIE Service Provider
