Description The Physical therapist assistant (PTA) will work as part of a team to provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist. The PTA will implement selected components of patient/client interventions (treatment), obtain data related to the interventions provided, and make modifications in selected interventions either to progress the patient/client as directed by the physical therapist or to ensure patient/client safety and comfort.
  • Adheres to professional, ethical and legal standards of practice
  • Participates with Physical Therapist in developing individual treatment programs
  • Administers a variety of exercises and interventions
  • Observes and records the effectiveness of intervention, and document patients’ progress
  • Proposes modification of specific intervention procedures to physical therapist
  • Coordinates treatment schedule with the Physical Therapist
  • Explains treatment techniques to patients
  • Processes orders for equipment and supplies
  • Perform clerical duties, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, and filling out forms.
  • Instruct, motivate, safeguard and assist patients as they practice exercises and functional activities.
  • Confer with physical therapy staff and others to discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment.
  • Knowledge of physical therapy principles, theory, methods and their application in an educational environment
  • Skill in providing a variety of interventions
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
  • One to Two years of experience as a physical therapist assistant
  • Graduation from an accredited program for physical therapist assistants
  • Current Texas licensure as a physical therapist assistant
