Description Summary:  
This position is primarily responsible for the pre-scheduling/registration, benefit verification and authorization for ancillary services prior to rendering the procedure directly related to radiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, physical therapy and occupational medicine.
  1. Daily retrieval of reservation/notification of orders to ensure that the necessary authorization, scheduling and visit confirmation is established within 24 hour
  2. Record all necessary information pertainant to payment resolution in the appropriately defined fields within the practice management and/or RIS systems
  3. Coordinate with the providers or clinical staff to resolve issues regarding prior authorization, referrals or clarification on orders
  4. Update necessary systems upon completion (RIS orders) for accurracy which triggers the workflow for the radiology and/or ancillary departments patient visit
  5. Ensures that all orders have proper orders and authorization based on payer requirments
  6. Ensure that all referrals have appropriate appointments
  7. Validates that all orders for services are complete with appropriate medically necessary diagnosis, treatment plans and authorizations.
  8. Obtain appropriate orders from external specialist for proper scheduling
  9. Responsible for all incoming calls related to ancillary services for our internal and external customers
  10. Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:  Minimum high school education or equivalent.  Minimum of six months of medical billing in a general medical office, Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of insurance industry.  Knowledge of insurance contracts and reimbursement rates. Knowledge of Medicare's Correct Coding Initiatives preferred. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type correspondence.  Must have knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding, medical terminology, 10 key touch and computer skills. Bilingual ability in English/Spanish preferred.  Certified Medical Insurance Specialist Preferred.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of Word Processing software, database software, spreadsheet and Internet software
Supervisory Responsibilities:  This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:  Depending upon the area assigned, may be 100% clinical setting or office setting in a clinical environment. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Physical Demands:  Requires manual dexterity, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, bending, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs. Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
