Job Description:
This position is responsible for maintaining 24x7x365 computing environments.  The System Administrator monitors daily operations of computer systems and associated peripheral devices for availability and performance.  Develops and maintains operation documentation while conducting system and subsystem startups, shutdowns, backups and dumps.  Restores and stores the systems and the databases.  Controls user activities such as aborting user sessions and recovering stalled printers and terminal jobs.  Responds to systems alerts, investigates and recovers hardware failures and recovers failed systems and applications.  Is responsible for the identification and resolution of service-level problems and the identification and support of mission-critical tasks.  Has communication with technical support groups, customer support centers, and vendors.  Is also responsible for monitoring daily operations of computer systems and associated peripheral devices for availability and performance.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Administer local and remote Linux servers across multiple physical and virtual server environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system problems.
  • Plan, coordinate, automate and execute system administrative tasks.
  • Accountable for the following activities:  Performance and tuning analysis, capacity planning, systems support, long-term strategic planning, problem resolution tracking, and software upgrades and installation.
  • Support projects that impact the Linux systems.
  • Partner with project teams to develop and maintain highly available services through clustering and load-balancing technologies.
  • Develop and maintain detailed backup and recovery strategies.
  • Develop and maintain real-time monitoring/alerting systems to provide accurate insight of systems status and security.
  • Proficient in full lifecycle management process.
  • Interface with vendors and procurement teams to spec, purchase, and maintain hardware, licensing, and warranty information for systems hardware and software.
  • Regularly review and automate monitoring of system security.
  • Research, test, and implement OS and application updates to maximize integrity and efficiency of the system.
  • Plan, schedule, estimate, and create project proposals while managing internal resources to ensure long-term system viability.
