Metallurgical Engineer – Metallic Materials and Brazing

Primary Responsibilities: 
·         Provide materials engineering expertise for the selection, specification, and release of metals during the product life cycle to maximize component/system performance, improve quality/reliability, minimize cost and reduce complexity. 
·         Perform and deliver critical failure analyses, root cause identifications, and problem solving/resolution services focusing on our aluminum product portfolio    
·         Identify, develop and communicate metallic material and brazing design and manufacturing “best practices”.
·         Initiate, manage, execute and document new material or new process development projects.
·         Lead metals and brazing process improvement projects and investigations utilizing engineering disciplines and tools (i.e. DFMEA, PMEA, Control Plan, 8D, DOE, Six-Sigma methodologies, etc.)
·         Review designs, develop material call-outs, and release production materials.
·         Support global Purchasing supply base strategies for materials drive cost reduction and “re-use”
·         Protect strategic materials and brazing related intellectual property by defensive publication, trade secrets, or submission of invention disclosures.
·         Develop and publish materials design tools, design guidelines, and test procedures.
·         Mentor and teach co-workers in materials and metallurgical principles.
·         Direct and coordinate materials testing and analysis and provide engineering recommendations.
·         Ensure materials engineering and laboratory procedures exceed quality and performance standards.
·         Clearly and concisely communicate on all aspects of materials and brazing to global teams.
·         Develop and enforce materials laboratory safety and housekeeping practices.
 
 The qualified applicant will possess the following:
 
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, or related engineering field is required. Advanced degree is a plus
 
Experience:
A candidate with 2 + years direct industrial experience in aluminum materials and aluminum brazing is preferred. 

​Desired Competencies and Experience:
•         A strong background in metallurgy, problem solving and failure analysis related to aluminum heat exchangers and aluminum products
•         A solid understanding aluminum metallurgy and corrosion
•         Candidate must possess excellent English communication skills and the ability to work as a cross-functional team member. 
•         They must be able to take the technical lead in addressing issues and offer timely solutions that positively impact project costs, timing, quality and customer satisfaction. 
•         A demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate with cross functional teams.
