The task of the Advocacy Intern will be to support the advocacy work of Human Rights First’s Senior Advisor for National Security, particularly in the areas of counter-terrorism strategy, the repeal of the 2001 Authorization to Use Military Force (AUMF), and Law of Armed Conflict. The Advocacy Intern will work closely with the Senior Advisor for National Security and the National Security Team, to advance program goals and strategic objectives.
Human Rights First’s National Security Program is committed to bringing an end to the 2001 AUMF or any revision that would expand its mandate. We advocate for a robust counter-terrorism strategy that does not rely on the kinetic option inherent in maintaining a war-footing, instead bringing into balance the kinetic and non-kinetic options available in a whole-of-government approach to counter-terrorism.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
PAID/UNPAID INTERNSHIP: Unpaid
START DATE: January 2014
TIME COMMITMENT: Minimum of 20 hours per week. The internship will run for 10 to 12 week period. Please specify if you are available part time or full time in your cover letter.
