Human Rights First is seeking a Washington, D.C.-based Media Relations Intern who will provide support for the Communications Team. The Media Relations Intern will work closely with the Media Relations Director and Associate to advance strategic objectives and assist with day to day projects. The Communications Team works cross-programmatically to increase Human Rights First’s profile and promote our unique approach to human rights advocacy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
·Assist in compiling morning news clips for staff;
·Write blogs and draft press releases;
·Proofread, edit, and fact check press materials;
·Work with communications team to ensure timely responses to media inquiries;
·Research potential targets for pitching press stories;
·Learn to use media contact database and build distribution lists;
·Attend press events and assist communications team with distribution of materials; and
·Monitor administration press briefings.
EDUCATION: Currently enrolled or recently graduated from an accredited undergraduate university.
PAID/UNPAID INTERNSHIP: Unpaid
START DATE: Fall 2013
TIME COMMITMENT: 15 to 20 hours per week, for at least 10-12 weeks
