Description
Position Summary:
This position will be responsible for receiving internal and external calls from various sources and also making outbound calls to obtain prescriptions and other information as needed.
 
This position is also responsible for accurately scanning prescriptions into patient records in the pharmacy database using a computer and a digital scanner.  This position functions with and assists any other area in the facility as needed.
 
Role and Responsibilities for Doctor Call/ Item Entry Technician
  • Enters new enrollments into ScripMed including but not limited to, Patient demographics, physician information, valid prescription, shipping information and Patient clinical history.
  • Enters new prescriptions; attach PA authorizations and clinical data as received.
  • Performs Doctors’ call on items that are in the Doctor queue for missing information or expired prescriptions.
  • Works the outbound fax queue to ensure that all faxes are successfully sent.
  • Prioritizes and handles multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Accurately verifies patients in the pharmacy database and scans prescriptions into patient’s account.
  • Verifies shipment addresses, handling payments, and entering order-related information.
  • Manages mail batches and works the oldest orders first.
  • Processes all required paperwork according to established procedures.
  • Frequently uses Microsoft Office Applications, order fulfillment systems, and basic office equipment (digital scanners, faxes, etc.).
  • Interacts with all employee levels and customers.
  • Answers telephone calls and e-mails in a professional and timely manner.
  • Takes personal initiative for technical and professional development.
  • Follows the company human resource policies, Code of Conduct and all department policies and procedures including protecting confidential company, employee and customer information, attending work punctually and regularly, and following good safety practices in all activities.
  • Performs other duties and projects as needed.
  • Qualifications (Required):
 
Education & Training
  • High school diploma is required.
  • Candidates who have completed some college coursework are strongly preferred.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification desired
 
Professional Experience:
  • Minimum 6 months experience within a records and/or data entry position required.
  • 1 year of pharmacy records or healthcare records experience is preferred.
  • Experience with prescriptions, especially Specialty medications, is helpful.
  • Phone experience a must
 
Professional Competencies, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the principles, procedures and best practices related to this position.
  • Experience in a pharmacy setting dealing with patients, physicians and pharmacists in a professional manner.
  • Experience with reading prescriptions and evaluating them for accuracy and legality.
  • Ability to focus on work in a fast-paced environment and perform scanning/ data entry with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Experience making outbound calls to obtain prescriptions and therapy status.
  • Ability to perform both independently and collaboratively with little supervision and meet daily deadlines.
  • Must be a detail-oriented individual with the ability to juggle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Highly motivated and flexible individual that understands the importance of confidentiality and sensitivity to patients’ needs and data.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to use Microsoft Office Applications and order fulfillment systems proficiently.
  • Possesses ability to use basic office equipment such as digital scanners, faxes, etc.
 
Other (Required licenses, certifications, schedule flexibility/OT, travel etc.):
Must have scheduling flexibility and be able to work occasional overtime.
