A Nassau County Company making a significant positive impact on energy efficiency and Greenhouse Gas emissions is looking to hire a DCS Engineer – Instrumentation/Control

In this role, the right candidate has a project and plant-manufacturing role. The DCS Engineer is responsible for system design, maintenance, configuration, integration and implementation of process control solutions including batch software, DCS systems, HMI packages, SCADA systems and PC networking technology. He will also maintain plant instrumentation and take responsibility for system administration, where he will interface with the IT specialist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify & analyze design changes & modify design drawings & documents accordingly.
  • Involved in the selection of equipment and materials for plant project requirements – phase 2.
  • Initiate the preparation of quotation requests and purchase order packages for procurement.
  • Monitor progress and performance of engineering contractors and equipment vendors during the execution of work on site.
  • Do programming changes to the DCS system for both maintenance and new projects.
  • Ensure that the scope of work, procedures and schedules are followed.
  • Resolve and respond to technical queries from engineering contractors and vendors.
  • Inspect equipment at the plant to ensure compliance with specifications and procurement documentation.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) of instrumentation/control packages as necessary.
  • Ensure that technical standards and specifications are complied with during the construction phase and for plant projects and changes.
  • Attend and contribute to plant and project technical meetings as necessary.
  • Assist in Instrumentation completion and handover documentation as necessary.
  • Participate in contractor/plant corrective actions and ensure nonconformities are resolved.
  • Pre‐commissioning, commissioning and start‐up support to operations.
  • Assist operations with control loop tuning of the plant.
  • Work with engineering and operating resources to develop a DCS strategy that supports the objective of world-class manufacturing.
  • Assist operations with alarm management optimization.
  • Investigate and recommend solutions to specific plant problems using data mining and advanced control techniques.
  • Develop and maintain the Information Management System (IMS)
  • Work with IT to develop good System Administration protocols – Network security etc. 
  • Cooperate and collaborate with other colleagues within the organization to ensure the overall business benefits from best practice.
  • Provide mentorship and in house technical training for the instrument technicians.

Qualifications:

  • Degree/HNC in Control systems/instrumentation engineering or equivalent
  • Experience Required:  7 – 10years in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with large multidiscipline projects with relevant experience in a chemical manufacturing environment
  • Experience in developing engineering design criteria and specifications.
  • Preparation of quotation requests and purchase orders for equipment and materials.
  • Experience in DCS, Safety Systems (SIS), PLC and packaged equipment control systems and field instrumentation.
  • Knowledge and programming experience in the selected LTF DCS and PLC systems  
  • Knowledge and Experience of Foundation Field bus technology would be advantageous.
  • Experience in managing/coordinating engineering contractors and equipment vendors.
  • HSE awareness & promote company HSE policy.
  • Conversant with American standards and software packages: ETAP, NFPA (for Fire Protection), OSHA (for safety regulation and practices)
  • Preparation of instrument sheets with transmitters, control valves, pressure and level gauges, orifice plates, pressure and flow switches. Familiar with RTU, LDS, DCS, PLC, ESD and P&ID’s including material take off.
