OVERVIEW:  The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting in examinations and treatments of patients under direction of the physician. This position is located on the east side of Indianapolis. 


  • Takes patients’ vital signs.
  • Takes medical history.
  • Prepares medication refills in HER or written prescription.
  • Verifies medication list.
  • Takes calls in the telephone triage.
  • Calls medical facility or department to schedule patients for test or procedures.
  • Administers vaccines or EPO injections.
  • Manages inventory and ordering supplies.
  • Answers incoming calls.
  • Communicates with patients regarding lab orders and medical procedures.
  • Works closing with physician regarding patients’ care, relays care plan or orders tests or authorized individual.
  • Schedules appointments.
  • Greets patients.
  • Arranges hospital admissions.
  • Arranges dialysis admissions.
  • Conducts urine dips.

Language, Math and Reasoning

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals.  Ability to write reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.   Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


  • One year certificate from college or technical school; and three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • CPR
  • Driver’s License
  • CMA certification


  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
